I've no great love for pit bulls or pocupines for that matter but that poor dog is in serious trouble. Most likely they will have to put him down. I imagine there are quite a few quills in its mouth and throat. Probably blind too.

I was thinking the same thing, and wondering why they were taking pictures of him instead of putting him out of his misery.?

The dog survived and went home the same day a little wiser with just some ointment on his face. This happens fairly frequently to dogs where porcupines live. Dogs just can't help messing with them. They take one bite at the porcupine and find out that they just face-planted into a box full of toothpicks.

The quills only go in a tiny bit. It might not even hurt as bad as it looks. They sedate the dog until he's conked out, then they do an hour's work with a needle-nose pliers yanking out the quills one by one.

One veterinarian posted on his website how he treated the same dumb dog three weekends in a row that looked as bad as the dog pictured here. The dog just wouldn't give up.

I even bet the porcupine survived too. That's what they're designed for.
