I have to purchase a truck based suv. I am looking for one that will lase at least ten years and give me good road handling and rugged to boot. I need a truck base because I have a rugged road to climb to get to my house.
I have beeen loooking at these two vehicles and would really like some input. If you have any others to recommend please chime in.
I am looking in the 30k or less range...and less is better.
They are dependable, reliable, and the most solid vehicle outside of a Subaru....
Let 'em die. I want to drive safely.
Jeeps, like anything else put out by Chrysler, are pure junk. Good luck on one of those lasting ten years. If you're lucky, the tranny might last 10,000 miles.
Toyota, on the other hand, is good stuff, despite all the recalls to their cars.
Seriously though. I agree with the poster that said Toyota. I'll be buying a new car or truck this year and if its a truck I'll buy a Tundra probably.

I thought that these were rugged cars that were a lot like their forefathers.
No brainer, get the FJ.
I looked at the tundra. Nice truck. I need a SUV though. I dont have anything to put in the back besides kids.

please elaborate?
There are no stupid questions, however there does seem to be an abundance of inquisitive idiots
You including me????? LOL
Personally I'd lean toward the Toyota, but even it didn't get very good reviews recently (for a Toyota) in Consumer Reports.
My Son in Law works for Toyota. I've seen one from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo caked in mud inside and out, they washed down the inside with a high pressure water hose to clean it. All electronics are sealed so you can do that without damage. Also the seats are made to air dry with no damage. It's a Toyota, they make good stuff.
No, of course not. I hope I helped.

You did. Thank you!
I bought my 2002 model Jeep Liberty in Oct 2001. It is still as perfect now as the day I bought it and tows my camper without effort.. My Mom's 1994 Jeep Cherokee has been passed down to my brother who abuses it for fun. It's a little rattley but strong and reliable. I would buy another Jeep in a minute, but don't have to. The Liberty is a tank in 4x4 low.
And all the Jeeps had to have their transmissions replaced.
That seems to be a drastic problem. I assume under warenty..
What did CR say was the problem with it? I am intersted because I like both of them but the Sahara seems to be a less complicated vehicle.
I would only add that the FJ will probably keep a better resale value than a Jeep.
