Bear, are you guys planning to see "300"? Talon and I hope to go tonight, we hear it's awesome.

My latest batch of yogurt didn't turn out at all. It curdled instead of setting. Very disappointing, not to mention unappetizing. Hrm.

"300" is opening at the IMAX here tonight. Jr. is going to try to go.

Talon will be jealous. None of the three Imaxes in Iowa have it. I think Imax might be a bit overwhelming.

We haven't been to a movie in... well, not since before we got married, and that's six months today. There just hasn't been anything worth seeing.

We understand. We rarely get to the movies. We want to try to see "Amazing Grace" this weekend.

Yep, we're planning to see "300", but maybe not until next weekend. I think we're going to see "Amazing Grace" this weekend, instead.

Usually we like to see the blockbusters a week after their release, so as to miss the big crowds.

Hmm, that's not a bad plan! We are both in the mood for an action movie though. Hafta hear you and Corin report on Amazing Grace, though, I haven't really heard anything about the movie, just its premise.

Hee, doesn't seem like six months. Not sure if it seems less or more.

Yep...I set mine last night to record 20 classes to the harddrive. (It has 160 GB) The boys take a total of ten classes from the satelite and each class is broadcast twice. So I'm recording both broadcasts, so in case there's a glitch or problem with the first feed, I'll have the second feed as a backup. Like Eng 7 and Eng 7b. Then I just burn the classes onto a DVD-RW.

There are a lot of reasons that could happen...anything unusual about the way you prepared it?

The power went out about 3AM, but I don't think that did it. If it was going to set it would have set by then. Oh well. I'll try again next weekend.

In the meantime, I have a tub of Stoneyfield in the fridge. :)

Well, I've made three batches of kefir and it's just turned out lovely every time. Amazing and quite delish! I flavor it with vanilla and sugar. I just had some poured over my granola.

I don't think I'll see it in the theater (ya know, I don't think I've been to a theater since we saw "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"?), but the plus side of it being so hyped is that there are pictures of Gerard Butler everywhere.

Kinda like that.

Are you using special milk for that?

It's a movie about 300 half-naked dudes killing bad guys and dying heroically. Sounds good to me. You should go see it with your sister-in-law or something.

Nope. Once I used whole milk from the store, once from the dairy in Claremore.

I just pour in a couple of cups of milk on top of the culture in a large mouth canning jar, put the lid on it and stick it under the counter. Ever now and then I take it out, look at it and swirl it. It starts to stick to the side of glass like buttermilk. When I take it out and before I swirl it if I see pockets of whey forming at the bottom and around the top of the milk, it's done. I swirl it then strain it through a strainer into another jar, then pour more milk back on top of the culture and start the process over again.

I flavor the kefir with sugar and vanilla to taste and stick it in the fridge. Plain, it has a yeasty flavor akin to sourdough but much milder...it's also mildly tart. It's like a cross between buttermilk and yogurt. Oh, it's effervescent. Makes you burp when you drink it!

And, it's mildly alcoholic. :-)

It's a fermented cultured probiotic milk product. You can flavor it with fruit, honey, anything...makes a smoothie. You can use it plain like buttermilk in cooking (pancakes for example). I have heard but never tried it that you can make sourdough bread from it.
