Eddie Van Halen to Fans: 'At The Moment I Do Not Feel That I Can Give You My Best'
Blabbermouth.com ^ | March 8, 2007

VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen has released the following statement:

"I would like VAN HALEN fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no VAN HALEN.

"I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That's why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

"Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 VAN HALEN tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I'm doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

"I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart."

Well so much for that! I think this is round 4 in rehab for Edward. Van Halen gets inducted this Monday into the hall of fame...I guess he won't be there.

Geoff Boucher of the Los Angeles Times reports that David Lee Roth, VAN HALEN's frontman for the band's first decade, said Thursday (March 8) he will not attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony because event officials have turned down his repeated overtures to perform.

"I don't make speeches for a living; I sing and dance for my dinner," Roth said, adding that the decision to skip the event "rips my heart out."

The Hall of Fame's event organizers plan for VELVET REVOLVER to perform some VAN HALEN classics, much as METALLICA stood in last year to play BLACK SABBATH songs while that band's members watched from the audience. "So it appears this is a television producer's decision," Roth said.

The choice of VELVET REVOLVER was in response to a sticky situation as far as what lineup of VAN HALEN could take the stage to perform with Roth. VAN HALEN's revered guitar hero, Eddie Van Halen, and his brother, drummer Alex, had already sent signals that they would not be in New York. The Van Halens have been in lock-down mode since their plans for a summer reunion tour with Roth collapsed last month. Roth said he last spoke to Eddie Van Halen's camp a week ago, and he said he could not determine the truth about reports that the guitarist is seeking help for alcohol problems.

"Ed is indisposed and working toward a better future here," Roth said. "If Ed ever dries up, this is going to be a stadium act, man.... What's happening here with this [New York event] is part and parcel of the same spiral that screwed up the tour."

another talented, spoiled, whiny b-tch of a rock star going to rehab. BORING!

here's a thought: put the drink down, enjoy your family and go make millions playing in front of thousands of adoring fans. no offense to anyone with an alcohol isue, but come on! eddie, get a grip.

all this guy ever had to do from the time he was 16 was play a guitar and cash the checks. that's it! you'll forgive me if i don't feel sorry for him.

David Lee Roth was always my favorite Van Halen vocalist, but I always bought the media line that he was the one with the ego, and it was his fault he was kicked out of the band. It's very apparent now that Eddie was the major ego case (not that I'm denying Diamond Dave has a huge ego). I didn't care for Sammy Hagar much as a lead singer, but the circumstances for which he was kicked out of the band seemed unreasonable to me. Then when Michael Anthony was kicked out and replaced by Eddie Van Hardon's nephew, there was denying that it is Eddie who ruined what could have been a truly great band.

LOL
They need to just show up...accept the award and stop all the drama...for pete's sake they are old now...it's not 1981...Eddie looks like hell, David no longer has his voice and the rest were mediocre at best....I still love the old albums Fair Warning, Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women and Children first...etc.....let it die peacefully fellas...you've had your day in the spotlight.

GRRRR I want to slap him. He used to slag off bands and guitarists that squandered their talent...now the shoe is on the other foot.

He's survived cancer....his son Wolfgang is following in his musical footsteps...he could make a mint with a reunion tour...yet he can't put the #!$#!$@ bottle down.

I wish Eddie the best. Alot of disses on Eddie on this post but at least he keeps his mouth shut about politics.

I love old VH but don't like how VH has ended in such disgrace.

I'm still waiting for the usual anti-VH crowd to cut and past their same old anti-VH posts. *YAWN*
