With all due respect, I think there is an impulsive component with psychopaths. I am not sure all murderers are psychopaths but I do believe that this psychopath seized an opportunity.
I don't imagine he planned it but when the opportunity came up I cannot rule out murder. IMO, it wasn't a plan as much as manipulating the time and the place for the next logical step(s).
