La Russa arrested for DUI in Florida

News-Democrat

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa was arrested Wednesday night by Jupiter police for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail and is expected to be released from jail this morning.

The legal limit in Florida is 0.08. La Russa's reported blood alcohol level at the time of his arrest was 0.093.

The arrest came 11 days before the defending World Champion Cardinals are to open the 2007 season.

La Russa, 62, is beginning his 12th season as Cardinals manager.

.093? That's almost three glasses of wine with dinner!

Here's an updated story. No wonder the cops had to check him out.

I don't care if he was at .0081 on the meter, if the details of this story are accurate it's a good bust, and being a lawyer he should know better and being a public figure he should know that the spotlight is on 365/24/7 and if something like this happens it's going to cause ca-ca.

Sorry, I added an extra zero to the legal limit, LOL!

My thinking ... a few drinks interspersed with some sort of over the counter or prescription drug he was taking contributed to his falling asleep behind the wheel of his SUV at an intersection. The Jupiter police (read brass & city managers) probably are not real happy about arresting a baseball sports legend on .093 DUI charge. Spring baseball in Florida is a big revenue draw, you don't want to alienate baseball clubs by hitting managers and players with a chicken**** DUI charge. Blowing a .093 and getting hit with a DUI falls into that category.

Dominic Rhodes (Colts running back traded to Oakland after the Super Bowl) had a similar deal. Caught on the freeway for 15mph over and had a .09.
He plea bargained it down to "reckless driving"
