Boston Red Sox: The Case Of The Flying Pizza
AOL Sports ^ | 04/16/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:49:35 AM PDT by misterrob

Boston fans over the years have enjoyed listening to the often bizarre, always entertaining antics of Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo during Red Sox broadcasts. Whether it's Rem-Dawgs obsession with Wally The Green Monster, talking about his new line of leather clothing (regarding the Remy Bobblehead) or using the Telestrator to highlight the carpet-like landscape of a fan's chest hair, more often than not it results in D.O. in an uncontrollable fit of giggles.

After yesterday, all of Remy's previous shenanigans take a back seat to Pizza-Gate. Words cannot describe the broadcasting magic with any justice, just watch and listen...

I hope the umpire’s instructions were carried out and the yo-yo who interfered with play was ejected - pizza and all.

I saw the victim of Pizza-Gate interviewed on NECN...he said he likes pizza as much as the next guy...but not in the face.

Sox manager Terry Francona responded to a question about the flying pizza..."they can do whatever they want as long as they are not throwing the pizza at me or us (sox).

Two beers spilled, the pizza and one ejection ... total bill $950...excluding parking of course. LOL.

LOL! Thanks for the ping... I saw most of the game yesterday, but missed "Pizza-Gate". Saw highlights of it on Baseball Tonight last night, but RemDawg's and Don Orsillo's commentary is FAR funnier than anything they could cook up at ESPN. Thanks again for the heads up... I would've missed it! :o)

We really love RemDawg and Don Orsillo. I knew we had a good thing with them here in New England on NESN, but didn't realize just how funny and talented they really are until we bought MLB Extra Innings a couple of weeks ago. With the exception of the great Vin Scully of the LA Dodgers, most of the other on-air personalities (with the possible exception of Jim Palmer of the Orioles/MASN) seem to be pretty boring, particularly those on the various FSN networks.

I realize it's early in the season and I shouldn't make a knee-jerk comment like that just yet, but I doubt anyone can beat RemDawg and Orsillo for entertainment value at the very least...

Remdawg and Orsillo just loved that. They needed something to talk about at that point of the game.

This is funny! Click on the AOL Sports link at the top of the thread, then click on the YouTube screen to start the video of "Pizza-Gate" with Jerry "RemDawg" Remy and Don Orsillo on NESN (New England Sports Network). It's only a minute or so.

This was yesterday's game at Fenway Park vs. the LA Angels of Anaheim (Red Sox won, 7-2).

They are really great to listen to. They are homers but not completely so to the point that another fan would find them distasteful. They keep it fun and interesting regardless of the score.

The scene with Dennis Leary and Lenny Clarke in the booth last year was priceless though...

I love RemDawg and Don. I miss them. You’re right, the other on-air personalities can’t hold a candle to them. I love getting to see the Sox on ESPN, but they have the WORST commentators. I wish they’d let RemDawg and Don cover the games instead.

The first thing I thought of was the price of the slices of pizza at Fenway.

Which is why it’s so painful to watch a Sox game when they’re on Fox or ESPN.

I love getting to see the Sox on ESPN, but they have the WORST commentators.

Ugh, the very worst is ESPN's Jon Miller, IMHO (although I think Joe Morgan is OK). Miller yacks on and on and on... very much like radio commentator Joe Angel of the Orioles. Miller's and Angel's droning on and on ticks me off, then puts me to sleep. It's truly awful.

Have you tried subscribing to MLB.TV, MLB Extra Innings or Gameday Audio? The Red Sox radio commentators are excellent... Joe Castiglione, Dave O'Brien and Glenn Geffner. Very often when ESPN runs a Red Sox game we turn the TV sound down and listen to the game on the radio.
