CINCINNATI -- Buses taking students from three suburban school districts on field trips to the Cincinnati Zoo were hit by bricks and other objects Thursday as they traveled through a neighborhood near the zoo.

Three girls from Butler County's Lakota schools were injured when a brick was thrown through a window of one of the buses at about 9:45 a.m., police said.

The girls from Adena Elementary in West Chester Township were taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where two were treated for wounds from broken glass and one was treated for a head wound caused by the brick, said police Sgt. Chris Conner. All three were released from the hospital.

Conner said four other school buses – two from Oak Hills schools in Hamilton County and two from Walton-Verona schools in northern Kentucky – also were hit by thrown objects at about the same time. There were no injuries or serious damage reported by those districts, Conner said.

"It's kind of a shock to us, and we're taking this very seriously," said Conner.

Conner said police suspect the bus attacks are connected. They met Thursday with zoo officials to plan increased neighborhood patrols and security outside the zoo.

Police said they are looking for a suspect described as a teenager.

Jon Weidlich, spokesman for Lakota schools, said the uninjured students and their parents continued on with the field trip.

Adena Elementary principal Amy Allen wrote in a letter e-mailed to parents Thursday that another zoo field trip planned for this week would be canceled.

Thane Maynard, co-director of the zoo, said in a statement that the zoo is "a safe, family-friendly attraction."

He said the zoo would continue to work with police and surrounding neighborhoods to prevent similar incidents.

This reminds me of playing sports in high school. We were always attacked if we defeated Seaside High School. It was their way of trying to win, through intimidation.

I bet if they check the security cameras, they’ll see George Bush laughing as his bricks go through the windows of the bus!

How strange that the author gives no clue as to why the buses were attacked. (not)

I guess these two don’t want to mention the recent race riots in Cincy, do they?
