>>caught out lip-synching during a ‘live’ performance

Ashlee Simpson...Milli Vanilli

WIKIPEDIA
>>Simpson received widespread criticism when she used a pre-recorded vocal track for a performance on Saturday Night Live in October 2004.

>>In July 1989, during a live performance recorded by MTV at the Lake Compounce theme park in Connecticut, the recording of the song “Girl You Know It’s True” jammed and began to skip, repeating the partial line “Girl, you know it’s-” over and over. According to the premiere episode of VH1’s Behind the Music which profiled Milli Vanilli, fans attending the concert didn’t seem to care and the concert continued as if nothing had happened, but critics did notice and savaged Rob and Fab in their concert reviews.

RE: Milli Vanili

I think it looks acceptable today to lip-synch to your own music and your own voice. That is what Britney and Ashley do.

Milli Vanili was different... they lip-synch to someone else’s voice. I don’t think that is acceptable not even with today’s low musical appreciation standards.

Not saying that won’t happen in the future though.
