I saw that. I can’t tell whether he got the out or what because I didn’t see the ball.

Center fielder Ryan Freel was taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with a teammate and tests came back normal Monday during the Cincinnati Reds’ 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Kyle Lohse threw a six-hit shutout, which snapped the team’s six-game skid as well as Lohse’s personal six-game losing streak.

Freel left the game in the third inning after running into right fielder Norris Hopper while catching Humberto Cota’s fly ball on the warning track in right-center field. Freel was spun around and landed near the base of the wall. The game was delayed 13 minutes while Reds trainers and doctor looked at him before he was strapped onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance to be taken to a local hospital.

The Reds announced in the fourth inning that Freel, who’s known for his all-out play, had feeling in all of his extremities and was coherent. CT scans were normal and he was diagnosed with a contusion to the head and neck. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday.

I can’t tell whether he got the out or what because I didn’t see the ball.

He must have because the Reds won 4-0 and the batter circled the bases. You can see him running from third to home.

Ouch!

But it doesn’t hurt until you come to your senses again.

It used to be...The center fielder was the “boss”. If he and another fielder called the ball, the other fielder was supposed to “yield” to the center fielder.

But this looks like the ball may have been hit perfectly between the two and maybe no one called it.

I was at a Tigers game the other day and saw pitcher Jason Grilli take a line drive to the knee. All 40,000 + people ion the park felt that one. He did go down.

Reminds me of that football game years ago when Joe Theismann’s leg was broken in several places. Coulda heard a pin drop in that stadium. :-(

I saw that on tv. I can’t tell if it was the collision or the way he fell that caused the injury. I remember back in the 70’s the NY Mets CF and LF were runnig full speed and just crashed into each other. One of them got a dislocated shoulder.

He hit his head on the warning track.
