NATICK, MA - A Framingham mother accused of leading her three young daughters in an attack on a 16-year-old girl last week at the Natick Collection is innocent, her sister said after the woman's arraignment yesterday.
Marilyn Camacho, 40, along with her 12-, 13- and 16-year-old daughters, was charged with attacking and beating Lizbeth Cortez at the mall May 21. She was arraigned in Natick District Court yesterday.
Camacho's sister, Sari Figueroa of Framingham, said security video from the mall that captured the attack will ultimately vindicate her sibling. She said Cortez started the incident by throwing a drink in the face of one of Camacho's daughters.
"The truth will come out," she said. "We'll see what happens and she will be let out, I hope."
Judge Andrew D'Angelo ordered Camacho of 23 Pamela Road held on $1,000 bail. She is already being held on $5,000 bail out of the Framingham Juvenile Court, where she is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Camacho's bail on an open assault case from Framingham District Court has also been revoked. That means even if she paid the two bails, she would still be held at MCI-Framingham.
Prosector Kristen Ragosta requested $5,000 bail, citing the ferocity of the attack that sent Cortez, 16, to the hospital with minor injuries.
"Numerous witnesses said they saw the four females, including the defendant, push the victim against a glass wall, pulling her hair and knocking her to ground, kicking her all over her body," the prosecutor said. "It appears the mother was the initial instigator."
Camacho, who is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and affray, has been found guilty 26 times to various crimes and has served time six different times, Ragosta said. Camacho also defaulted on appearances 21 times, and is facing similar charges out of Framingham District Court.
However, Camacho's lawyer, Bridget Bradley, said $5,000 was "excessive," for the mother of seven children.
"There's always two sides for every story," she said. "It seems this was an ongoing incident between the victim and one of her daughters. She (Camacho) said she did not attack the young victim and the videotape will exonerate her."
Two of Camacho's daughters, the 12- and 13-year-olds, were held in state custody after their arraignments in juvenile court Thursday, while the 16-year-old is under house arrest.
Camacho's mother and the father of the youngest children, 2 and 5, are taking care of the children while she is being held, Bradley said.
Camacho is actually scheduled for a jury trial in Framingham District Court beginning Monday for another incident in which she is accused of attacking 16- and 13-year-old girls who argued with two of her daughters, then ages 13 and 12 in December.
Camacho claimed the two teen girls had attacked her when she confronted them about a fight they had with her two daughters, but police said Camacho threatened the girls with a knife.
Another victim of white racism.
Well, at least she understands the concept of “mutual support”.
ah, the richness of multi-culturalism! Honor killings coming next?
They tried really hard to make us think she might be innocent, but it’s hard to hide the 26 prior convictions for assault, OR the fact that she’s currently out on bail for ANOTHER assault charge.
I’m not a big fan of 3-strike rules, but I’m thinking after 5 or 6 you’ve set a pretty clear pattern.
But I'm sure she's innocent this time.
Hey, I see a pattern. "You diss my girls, I'm gonna have to give you a beat down!"
“Im not a big fan of 3-strike rules, but Im thinking after 5 or 6 youve set a pretty clear pattern.”
I’m not in favor of 3-strikes either. However, we know that a judge who gets tired of seeing a defend... er, criminal, has ways to make sure that they don’t get out for a while.
I’m pretty sure that this case should be one of those. Bonus points if they charge mom for any crimes her little SEVEN (???) darlings commit due to her influence on them.
“”However, Camacho’s lawyer, Bridget Bradley, said $5,000 was “excessive,” for the mother of seven children.””
Perhaps locking her up will break the ‘crankin’ out the babies’ cycle.
Must be a name thing........
