BARBECUE FOR THE TROOPS JULY 21, 2007, SOUTHINGTON CT
Gathering of Eagles | 06/10/07 | RaceBannon

Posted on 06/10/2007 8:29:34 AM PDT by RaceBannon

The GATHERING OF EAGLES, a patriotic organization of Americans who are proud to publicly honor our nation’s military and veterans, and the Southington lodge of the B. P. O. E. (ELKS CLUB) are sponsoring a Barbecue to be held in honor of all Active duty, Reserve, and National Guard personnel in Connecticut, on July 21, 2007, at the Elks Club, Southington, Connecticut, from noon until 4PM.

This food fiesta will be held on July 21, 2007, at the Elks Club, Southington, Connecticut, from noon until 4PM.

We ask that all attendees bring hot dogs, hamburgers and all the fixin’s, including buns, mustard, other condiments of your choosing and all kinds of goodies for dessert. We also ask that you bring extra food for the military personnel (and their families) we are honoring. We ask this because we wish that all participating Military families eat for free! This means bring more food than you normally eat!

Cooking space, grills, eating utensils, and tables and chairs will be provided.

To add to this event, we have a wonderful band to play some upbeat music for the event, local recording artists Carrie Ashton and Jen Taylor!

Let’s show our support for our military men and women by turning out in large numbers on July 21st!

Folks, this is a RAIN or SHINE event! Our troops are serving in the dessert, let’s SERVE them in Southington!

DIRECTIONS FROM RTE 84: Take exit 31 and head south on rte 229 for 1 mile until you see a blinking yellow light. Turn left at this light onto West Center Street.

Proceed through 2 stop signs. As you go up the hill after the second stop sign, the ELKS Lodge is on the right The Elks Lodge is located on the corner of Columbus and Main Street, Southington, Ct. Contact numbers: ELKS LODGE (860) 628-6682 GATHERING OF EAGLES, Connecticut (860) 516-8912

This is an awesome idea, wish I could be there but we have an 80th birthday party that day down here above Philly. That’s the old Route 66, isn’t it? My brother lives in Southington, not far from the Elks Lodge, off “66”, but he’s a die-hard liberal and is furious about the war. We’ve hardly spoken these past years. I never discuss politics with him—he believes everything written in the Hartford Cou-rag.

I’m going to send this invitation to an old friend and her husband, an Army veteran. I’ll bet they’ll be there—and with lots of food.

Hope you have a terrific turnout. Our troops and especially their families, need all the support and thanks of everyone. Thank you for being a part of this effort!

I dont know if that is the old Rte 66 or not, it is near the old rte 6, but that is way north, rte 6 became 84, right?

That;s going WAY back!

I just realized that Main Street is actually in town—there’s a green there, I think. The old 66 was off 84 and there was a big truck stop on it—I was thinking that was Main Street. I believe it’s actually the Southington-Meriden Road.

Actually, I go way back even before that. I graduated from Berlin High School in 1951! :)

Is 66 now 322?

I think you’ve got it! Sounds right to me. We take the exit south of that, I think—limited access to Meriden.
