I am protesting the 2009 transition to HiDef broadcast through my local Congressman. I won't qualify for one of the free converter box certificates after they shut off the standard definition stations, and that's just unfair.
BUMP
Why do these threads attract so many "I'm a Luddite and proud of it!" type posts? ;)
“I upgraded to a 20” color model for less than half I paid in 1981.

1. The switch is to digital, not high-def only.
2. If you bought a TV this year it probably has a digital tuner in it and you don’t need any converter box.
3. None of the above has anything to do with Blu-Ray or HD-DVD :)
Why stick with a 1940’s technology?
Even if you don’t care about HD, you CAN get a new TV that can accept the new broadcast signals for under $300 now. It won’t be high def but it WILL be able to use the new digital signals and produce a “regular” picture with it.
I won’t either, and have never had cable or anything else besides a P.C. So, without TV do you really think I’ll be missing anything?
I’m hoping my early 1980’s Zenith 25” screen TV will continue on for several more years. Has a good picture, and I added Bose speakers.
Haven’t checked yet to see if this Zenith qualifies for the converter, hopefully so but maybe not.
Not me. I have a Samsung 1080p and will get the Blu-ray player as soon as prices go down. TV is my life!
