One man's message to left-lane slow pokes

CAMAS, Wash. – Among the things you can't avoid in life – death, taxes and the slow driver in the fast lane.

Oh, you can try passing them in the HOV lane, but if you’re driving solo, the State Patrol will likely make you pay for it. You can tailgate, but risk getting into a wreck. You can honk or give the one finger salute, but then you're dealing with potential road rage.

Now a Camas man has come up with a passive-aggressive way to make those slow drivers in the passing lane move over, and it's apparently working.

J.A. Tosti came up with the idea of putting a thin vinyl strip on the top of the windshield with an arrow pointing to the right lane that literally tells drivers to "Move Over."

The words are spelled backwards on the sticker, so a driver looking in their rearview mirror will see it spelled correctly – similar to how emergency vehicles spell out "ambulance" backwards on the hood.

I don't have a problem with slow traffic keeping to the right, but should the left lane be for speeders only? I just get annoyed when I'm going the speed limit, or even slightly over, and have an irritated cowboy in my rear-view-mirror that thinks I'm in the wrong lane.

That is a pretty car. Too bad it is about to be ‘keyed’.

The left lane is not just for “speeders”, it’s for people driving faster than some people drive in the passing lane. There is such a thing as impeding the flow of traffic. More people should be ticketed for it. It causes accidents, congestion and global warming.

Another bad thing is slow passers, people who take forever to pass another car. In other words passing someone going 65 at about 66 or 67 MPH instead of getting it over quickly, courteously and safely.

So if they come up behind you in the right lane, you should pull onto the shoulder?

Study up on your traffic laws.

The left lane, in most cases, is often described as a passing lane.

Sticking yourself in the left lane and refusing to budge is an invitation to danger.

Always use your turn signals.

Always look twice, three times before changing lanes.

Never tailgate.

Drive defensively.

Lead, follow or get out of the way.

I also think they should make one that says: “Lead, follow or get out of the way”

Get in an accident with this sticker, and look for a jury trial and a huge settlement. I hope we don’t have the same insurance company...

If I see a car with this sticker, I’ll intentionally slow down to the same speed as the car in the right lane.

You’re only supposed to be in the left lane if you’re going significantly faster than the people in the right lane. The speed limit is irrelevant.

Do you often brag about asinine behavior?

All those rules make sense and everyone knows that.

Bad driving is like political correctness. 99% of the people dislike it, but its still there. Everybody does it.

Heck, I have complained about people riding my bumper WHILE I was riding someone elses bumper.

In Georgia you are the one in violation of the law.

Getting the popcorn, this will be a long, lustily argued thread.

The speed limit is not irrelevant. There is a time for doing irresponsible and reckless things like speeding, we call this the time up until we have families. Once we have families, we are expected to be more responsible.

Of course, maybe people wouldn’t feel the need to speed if they weren’t all so hell bent on living so damned far away from where they work.
