But last week came an astonishing new twist to the Roswell mystery - which casts new light on the incident and raises the possibility that we have, indeed, been visited by aliens.
Lieutenant Walter Haut was the public relations officer at the base in 1947, and was the man who issued the original and subsequent press releases after the crash on the orders of the base commander, Colonel William Blanchard.
Haut died last year, but left a sworn affidavit to be opened only after his death.
Last week, the text was released and asserts that the weather balloon claim was a cover story, and that the real object had been recovered by the military and stored in a hangar. He described seeing not just the craft, but alien bodies.
He wasn't the first Roswell witness to talk about bodies. Local undertaker Glenn Dennis had long claimed that he was contacted by authorities at Roswell shortly after the crash and asked to provide a number of child-sized coffins.

In ancient Hindu texts, specifically the Mahabarata and the Ramayana, written at roughly the same time as the Old Testament books, all kinds of flying machines are clearly described as engaged in aerial combat during a "war of the gods."
To me “Roswell” requires neither that it be accepted as “extra-terrestial” or that it be totally rejected as such.
It only requires suspension of total and absolutest judgment, either way; and in the fullness of time, some era of humanity will learn the full truth or falsity of it.
I find good arguments against many of the claims for it made by the “UFO” crowd, as well as good arguments that the government was trying to control what was the truth of it, for whatever reason. So, I accept that there are grounds for suspicion of the government’s efforts, while also believing the “truth” presented by the government’s critics is largely speculation and not totally “proven” either.
To me, it is not worthy of worrying about what the real truth is. I can live with either version and it won’t change me, my values, or what I believe about God, the universe or humanity.
Probably this is the best way. If in our lifetimes, God forbid, the real crap with aliens hits the fan, at least it won't come as a complete surprise to them. But until then, let them have their comfort.
It was reading Apollo 7 astronaut Gordon Cooper's autobiography, "Leap of Faith," that cinches it for me. Only a few pages in this full-length book were about his experiences with UFOs, but enough to be ... enough for me. I'd just as soon not believe, but that would entail self-deception.
Hands down the most concisely relevant post yet with regard to UFO coverups.
Fascinating read! Mark for later reference!
