I had a completely different take on Ratatouille, and apparently so do most of the people who have seen it. From the article linked at the top:
As someone who saw Ratatouille at the sneak preview two weeks ago today, I can tell you there was clapping and cheering in my theater as well.
I hear the incredibly well reviewed film (95% "fresh" reviews at Rotten Tomatoes) played right across the board. And, while Los Angelenos are used to applause as the credits roll, there are anecdotal reports of lotsa clapping across the country.

My kids (and husband) really liked Flushed Away. It’s by the same people that made the Wallace & Grommet movies.
My kids did not like Cars. They were bored. My kids are older now, 10 & 12, so they are a little harder to entertain.

Bruce Willis was great in the movie—as good as the first Die Hard——maybe better. Excellent movie!

It was more than a crush. I thought you saw the movie. That story line was ridiculous and creepy.
Saw it at a sneak preview and loved Ratatouille. Pixar’s ability to create realistic scenes improves with every film and in this one it’s beyond belief. It’s hard to believe that kitchen and that food - and Paris itself - were computer generated! Remy’s facial expressions and the timing of the gags were incredibly good. The plot took such unusual twists, the opposite of the usual Disney movie plot - thank goodness!
No, go see Ratatouille on the big screen! This is one animated film that primarily adults will enjoy - and the kids will find a lot to like in it too. It is amazing.

I saw Ratatouille. Are you sure you didn't walk into The Graduate, or Private Lessons, or Class?
Amen! I did too, and think it was a stroke of genius for Disney to show the film before the official release date so when people would ask, "Why would I want to see a movie about a rat chef?" people like me would tell them why.
A movie like Cars pretty much sells itself. Ratatouille is a good deal more cerebral and adult. A few folks have said that the kids they saw it with were bored, but the only thing that kept me going for most of Cars was the imaginative integration of the characters in the form of classic cars, '50s Route 66 architecture and graphic design, and the beautiful landscapes. As I mentioned in my review of Ratatouille, Cars was essentially a knockoff of Michael J. Fox's Doc Hollywood. The kids didn't have the burden of knowing that, so they ate Cars up.

For Ratatouille? The best Pixar movie I’ve seen! I don’t think it’s a kids movie, but rather for adults who love animation and a good story. I recommend it to anyone who has a similar taste as myself. My wife and I saw it without the kids. Kids loved the slapstick in it, but prolly didn’t get anything else. There was loud clapping when the movie was over. Was loved by the crowd I saw it with.
As for Dreamworks? Pretty much hate everything they’ve done. Shrek? I won’t let my kids see that until they are over 13. Vile, disgusting jokes. All the Pixar stuff is kid and family friendly (so far!). Very positive uplifting movies.

Colette's cuter than Janeane Garofalo ever could be.
I went to see this POS (matinee prices), and thought Angelina Jolie showed herself to be the biggest over-actor since William Shatner.
My girls (5 and 7) loved it. So did my wife and I.
Then again, my wife and I are “foodies”.
