Police: Pa. Boy Stabs Brother Over Game

LANSDOWNE, Pa. (AP) - A 13-year-old boy fatally stabbed his brother with a steak knife after the 16-year-old refused to turn over a video game controller, authorities said.
Jahmir Ricks was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Antwan Ricks at their home outside Philadelphia. The older boy died of a single stab wound to the chest, police said, and a bent and bloody knife was recovered from the home.
Lansdowne police said the younger boy told them, "I just stabbed my brother," when they arrived at the home Sunday.
Police believe the argument started when Antwan Ricks would not turn over the game controller after losing a game to his brother. Police Chief Daniel Kortan said the rules of the house were that the person who lost had to give someone else a chance to play.
The argument escalated into a brawl, and the younger boy grabbed the knife, Kortan said.
Antwan Ricks was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jahmir Ricks, who was charged as an adult, was being held without bail. It was not immediately known if he had obtained an attorney. He faces charges of third-degree murder, assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of instruments of crime.

It's what we have become. Parents that don't care, let their kids run wild, public schools that are nothing more than indoctrination centers, violent games and movies.
What should we expect, angels?
Lansdowne used to be a decent lower middle class town in the first ring of suburbs outside of Philly, but in the 90s, section 8 housing started taking over and now the town is full of welfare bums, junkies and immigrants (legal and illegal) working 2 and 3 jobs.
IOW it’s a low class slum at this time.

Sorry, I disagree. I believe the extreme level of violence and disaffectation in hip hop music, violent video games and popular movies (horror, X or R rated, etc) lead all too easily to this type of thing - an impulse that goes too far.
After all, we know the Army uses video games to desensitize their trainees to shooting and hand-to-hand combat.
Resident Evil is a piece of crap, at least the PC version is.

Antwan is street for Antoine, I guess. That’s about as low-rent as the name of a girl I went to high school with. Her parents wanted to seem continental so they name her Yvonne, which would have been fine even in Texas. What gave it away, though, was that they pronounced it wye-vahn.
It’s probably 3rd degree murder, as first degree murder usually means it was done in cold blood (or in the commission of another felony, aka bank robbery).

Hmmm . . . I thought it was 1st for premeditation, 3rd for unpremeditated, and 2nd for unpremeditated during the commission of a concomitant felony.

Don’t know. I am just used to seeing it in Philadelphia-related news all the time (no surprise, given that I live in NJ).
