Freepers, please help me out on this one. I have a friend who is romantically interested in someone who may not be telling the truth on several matters...whether he's married, has a criminal record, etc.
I know there are many sources out there (i.e., "scams") that charge a fee but give very little info.
I used to know of some terrific websites on which there was a ton of information for free but I can't seem to track them down at the moment.
PLEASE help. I don't want my friend to be duped. Intuition is great. Extra info is even better. Anyone know of some great resources? Please post links.

The first, is useful if you have a name and address.
The second two, useful if you know the handle of the user you are looking for.
Myspace and facebook should not be discounted. If the friend or family member there has a link, look it up.
The individual may not realize they have info posted about them on their friends sites.
Beyond that, you may need to use pay sites, but beware, they use the same info you can get for free by searching state, and county records.
If you really need some help, hire a private investigator.

What is your opinion on the best way to directly find state and county records? In person? By Mail?
On that, I do not know. Many state and local govt’s have web access to records.
I am also wanting to do a background search and am willing to pay for it. But I’ve read about scam sites.
Anyone know of a good website to search public & criminal records? Probably isolated to the Southeastern U.S.
