I love children. My fiance and I want to have them. But, there is a segment here on FR that seems to fit the type this woman describes...and we know how these threads go!

I think this is a fascinating example of our self absorbed culture.
The fact that these self imposed anxieties are even published speaks volumes about the anti child mentality that increasingly dominates American culture.
I would love to see a similar article from the perspective of an unborn child.

But, there is a segment here on FR that seems to fit the type this woman describes... You mean the ones who have all these perfect kids, and who know exactly the reason each and every one of us who does not have kids is child-free?
The ones who make sweeping assumptions and judge based on that?
You mean that segment? ;-)

The situations this writer describes are rude beyond belief, but to make decisions based on what a bunch of morons are doing is stupid.
Also, she thinks she has it bad? The childless and 2.5 children families are just as obnoxious about big families. She should try having 7 children...people are full of asinine comments (once had a dental hygienists whisper in my ear "Ever heard of birth control?"...I was 5 months pregnant with baby number 6. Really, in today's world does anyone actually believe that someone wouldn't know about birth control?!)

The mommies who define themselves completely by motherhood and have that competitive, ‘I’m the best mommy’ attitude, damn near always have screwed up kids, usually with poor social skills and little or no ability to be self-reliant. Doesn’t bother me, just kind of funny in an ironic sort of way because they always seem to be so blind to it.

No one could possibly love your kids as much as you do, so stop inflicting them on others. My favorite line of the piece....

Why was she at the birthday party if she only slightly knew the lady?
To: RockinRight
I crouched to meet the eye line of an acquaintance's 4-year-old to greet her, and in response, she punched me in the face so hard my mouth bled. What was more baffling was the mother's reaction: nothing to the child, but to me she said very sternly: "You really shouldn't talk down to kids." Somehow, I have a feeling that she deserved that punch. Something about her arch tone belies her motives in this set piece.

Shallow, immature people attempt to justify their choices on “poor roll models.”
By the time a woman is old enough to write this article, she should be able to fend off unwelcome touch and just say she’s happy with her life as it is.
Instead, she adopted the victim mentality with an overdose of self-righteousness.

It sounds like this woman AND her childbearing friends all belong in a loony bin.

So....she isn’t having kids because people have been rude to her, and she doesn’t like how other parents raise their kids?
What a cop-out.
Basing a decision like that on the poor behavior of others is a cop-out.
There is more to her childlessness than she is letting on, and she is just venting about people she doesn’t like.

re: She said, dripping with condescension, "Well, you don't know happiness until you've had a baby.")))
Does anyone else smell "urban legend" here? I don't think I'm believing this. Sounds made up.
Maybe there are a few moms out there pushing childbearing on people to validate their own choices...
