A Finnish squirrel with a sweet tooth heads to a Finnish grocery shop at least twice a day to steal "Kinder Surprise" chocolate-shelled eggs.
"I named it the Kinder-squirrel, after the treats. It always goes after them, other sweets do not seem to interest it as much," the manager of the store in Jyvaskyla, central Finland, told Reuters.
The confectionary, which is intended for children, has a toy inside.
"It removes the foil carefully, eats the chocolate and leaves the store with the toy," Irene Lindroos said.
Unfortunately, the bushy-tailed thief does not clean up after itself, but leaves the wrappers behind, she added.
Squirrels have a well deserved reputation for being clever and adaptable animals. Many a home owner has seen the small rodents raiding their supposedly "squirrel-proof" bird feeders.
That’s odd, I thought chocolate was toxic to rodents (at least it is to hamsters).
That’s a lot of toy ... there must be very little chocolate. I’ve never seen these before.

When you zoom in you can see the different toys and themes.
These toys are the best. I give them to the family kids. German engineering. Some are simple. Some are complicated as hell. I got one that used the plastic capsule that holds the toy to make a boat with outriggers and an elastic propellor.
I would kill that squirrel right off if it was assempbling the toys inside.lol. The chocolate is real high quality. White on the inside and brown outside and shaped exactly like an egg.
In Germany they have connectors for the eggs and people will put a string of them on a Christmass trees.
They string the plastic capsule that holds the toy peices.
For Your morning smile.
A smile for you.
Nothing’s safe from the squirrel!!
Why thank ye! How I missed out on this sweet treat I’ll never know. Do you buy them on-line or are they available in confection shops? Honestly, I’ve never seen them in the NE.
Stores that cater to Europeans have them. They are generally small local type places.
They’re about the size of a Grade A Extra Large egg (maybe slightly larger). Hollow, with the “shell” just large enough to be stable. I’ve seen them in the states at Euro-style delis. They cost about a buck each. The toys are very ingeniously designed (the assembly is what makes them fun).
