Let me be among the first to remind everyone that we are a “nation of immigrants.” That’s what we are.
‘Nation of immigrants’ is irrelevant to this case. It is about criminal behavior, law-breaking, a man of no character, etc. That we let him into this country, THAT is what is criminal. 100 years ago we turned immigrants away for being criminals and just about for having runny noses and measles. Now we welcome them.
Let’s fix that quote — ‘We are a nation of LEGAL immigrants who are not criminals.’ I like that a lot better.
As an aside, every country, nation or place is made of of immigrants.
Not when they lump illegal aliens into the same category. I don’t consider them immigrants when they’re illegal.
It remains true that: A nation which cannot control its borders, cannot control its destiny.
The Constitution gives control of immigration and naturalization to Congress. Congress has passed sufficient laws. But Congress (through inadequate funding) and the President (through inadequate commitment to enforcement) are not carrying out those laws.
