Cowherd: Bill Hagy was one wild fan of the O's
Baltimore Sun ^ | August 22, 2007 | Kevin Cowherd

I am not going to tell you "Wild Bill" Hagy was a choirboy, because someone who guzzles nine or 10 Budweisers and shot-puts his cooler from the upper deck of a stadium before being led away in handcuffs probably doesn't qualify for that.

****The fans talk on cell phones and wave and mouth "Can you see me?" to their friends back home when the TV cameras are on them.****

I love that line. That's the problem with most of these stadiums. I can't stand people that do that.

And in other related news, The Texas Rangers scored 4 touchdowns and tacked on a safety as they dominated the Baltimore O’s 30-3 in action at Camden Yards today.

I think Roger Staubach 3 TD’s and Herrera added 3 FG’s. The orioles of course countered with a lone Jim O’Brian FG. LOL!

And that was just the first game of a doubleheader. Some one might be able to set the all time record for RBI’s in a doubleheader. I believe thst record is 11 by NAte Colbert in 1972.

It seems to happen whenever and wherever a television camera is present.

I was watching the local television news coverage of a triple homicide and there were several people in the background behind the reporter, waving and mugging for the camera while on their cell phones.

There seem to be a lot of sports fans nowadays who go to the games but aren’t as devoted fans as in the past. Some go to the games because they can get into a corporate skybox, or because their company has season tickets, so they can go to the games and entertain clients.

And some of this goes both ways too. The teams and players don’t command as much loyalty in the days of free agency in sports. Players come and go, and teams sometimes move out of town if they don’t get a new stadium. Threats of moving or actually moving don’t do much for engendering fan loyalty to a team. Nor does constant turnover of team members.

At this years baseball hall of fame induction, many commentators kept mentioning how Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken were throwbacks because they spent their whole careers with one team.

Just heard this news. I knew Bill, played golf with him several times...drank beer with him many times. Hadn't seen him in a couple years. He was a good old boy.
RIP Bill.

We hung out and partied in Section 34 on many a summer night. Sometimes Bill would get bored and do the C-O-L-T-S cheer.

Camden Yards is nice, but I miss Memorial Stadium. Good old days.

Angelos ruined a great franchise by trying to micromanage something he knows nothing about. Besides that, he’s also a dirtbag. Until people stop going to Camden Yards he’ll continue to field losing teams and make lots of money.
