What TV Do I Buy?
me | 10/9/07 | me

Posted on 10/09/2007 11:39:13 AM PDT by freekitty

My 6 year old Sony just died. I am looking for a tv that does not have a picture tube.

Does anyone recommend one? Does anyone know about LCD or Plasma?

Need some help.

Thanks.

Thanks. I think the one I had was 36”. I had Home Theater; and it was nice until my pups chewed up all the speaker wires. LOL Also, my husband has been known to break a remote or two. The guy is unbelievable. He breaks everything. Do I need childproof. LOL Between him and the pups; life can be a mess.

Btw, none of my stuff is broken. Only his. LOL

If you get a Westinghouse, they have a variety of inputs ranging from VGA to HDMI. I have the 42” and 47” LCD models, and I’ve been very pleased with both (both are 1080p).

Don’t care about sexy. Care about the money going down the drain. LOL

There's very little that can go wrong with a DLP set. There's a one lamp (about $200) that supposedly needs to be replaced every several years, but mine is over 2 years old and is showing no sign of losing brightness and it's on 40-50 hours weekly.

I don’t think the electric company likes me especially when someone left the gate open; and my girls escorted the electric man down the street. Don’t misunderstand; they are sweet; but he did the right thing by just letting them escort him. My husband got them back in. Could it be that he left the gate open. Now it is locked.

I agree... I have a 65” Mitsubishi Rear Projection AND a 54” DLP.... Both cost about the same.

The DLP has VERY bright colors.. and, it good to watch. I love it. But, the Mitsubishi is MUCH CLEARER in HD. It’s really stunning. It’s a big TV.. but, I have it in a big room, so it works...

Less money, bigger screen, better picture... Hmnnnn.. tough choice.

Have a ‘77 floor model zenith tv, late 80s zenith portable tv and my Sears 60” screen tv from ‘97. All are operating just fine.

They told me it would cost between 2,000 to 3,000 to fix it. Now is that crazy or what?

What are your needs? What's your price range? Depending on those two there are a lot of factors. May I recommend doing some research on AVS Forum? Their website is a little tricky to get the hang of, but gives lots of real-life reviews of TVs. Choose carefully and you won't have to replace again for at least 10 years.

Yikes! It’s only been a few years since I did extensive research on TVs!

Nothing says CHEAP to a girl friend quite like watching a movie on a computer monitor at home.

Everyone’s got an opinion! :-)

I love my widescreen HD-compatible HDMI-in Sony CRT, frankly. It’s a monster to move, but the screen is as good as it gets.
