Along with the [Dodgers'] possible hire of Torre, it is being reported that his bench coach, Don Mattingly, may be joining him in the same role that he manned for one season with the Yankees after spending three seasons as their hitting coach.I take the minority position on Mattingly, formed completely as a result of the disgraceful strike that cost the 1994 Baseball Season. It was not, strictly speaking, Mattingly's active role in the strike that got me -- he was the Yankees players' rep that year -- it was because in every postgame lockerroom interview leading up to the strike, Mattingly never once mentioned the fans. Not freakin' once!!!
