How Do You Get Rid of Feral Cats?
www.freerepublic.com ^ | 11-5-07 | self

My community has a problem with feral cats. The animal control department has a no-kill policy so they never seem to be able to catch them, muchless reassign them. Animal-rights wackos continue to feed them and never neuter them. Consequently, the females are constantly pregnant and we now have an over-population that no one wants to deal with. If you do not have a big dog in your yard, your grass (and doormats, outdoor furniture, etc.) will reek from the waste these cats spread everywhere.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? What has your community done?

Or, a third. You could introduce coyotes to the neighborhood.

Don't you watch Roadrunner cartoons? Coyotes are that stupid in real life, too. I lived in Arizona and Montana where coyotes and feral cats were common. The cats won because coyotes would rather raid garbage cans.

Just so I know the lay of the land here...am I the only one that thinks catch, neuter, release is inhumane?

I disagree. Cops don't carry .22s for a reason, though the .22 has taken just about every game animal known to man.

interstingly, a high end gammo pellet gun has higher fps and energy than a .22. pretty lethal out to 40 yards.

get a scope on it too.

It took three applications but no more cats...

If you had used African red pepper powder, it would have been a single time. Imagine their surprise upon licking their fur.

They trapped animals, inoculated them, neutered them and then returned them.

One shoreside community near Charleston, SC with a feral cat problem does the same thing ... then notches the ear of the cat. This lets people know which cats have been 'treated'.

a .22 loaded with colibri/ super colibri rounds is just as quiet and works just as well.

CB caps, from a rifle with a longish barrel. Handclap loud.

I’ve used Coyote urine. Few drops on a cotton ball and deposit them where they won’t get rained on. Works for about all four legged critters except for the ditch rats, a.k.a. white tail deer.

CB caps work great for a rifle, but are a bit too loud with a pistol.

Out of necessity I could only get to it on the weekends, so it was over a three week(end) period. I don’t know why they haven’t been back - that stuff must certainly have decomposed by now!
