My favorite quote from a football discussion site:
“The Steelers made a run at cheerleaders in the 70’s with babushka wearing chunky women. It was hilarious. They kinda looked like the guys who cross dress at Skins games.”
Can you name the other NFL teams sans cheerleaders? I think the Jets recently went over to the dark side.

Even some of the British soccer teams are getting dancers (they don’t really lead cheers even in the NFL)

They probably have the dancers to distract the fans from killing each other.

Some college baseball teams even have dancers who dance on the dugout between innings. There is nothing we can do about it, there will soon be dancers in every sport.

It wasn't the 70s (I have seen the pix and I think it looks more like the late 50 or early 60s). No cheerleaders is in defference to the Chief, the late Art Rooney, Sr. Mr. Rooney, a devout Catholic, didn't approve of such displays, and noted that fans come to watch the game. His sons, family still own the franchise and still honor his belief...and the team has been successful, so one could add no 'distraction' is needed to entertain the SteelerNation.
