Four Ravens fined for improper conduct relating to officials

National Football League

Four Baltimore Ravens players have been fined for violating league rules prohibiting the abuse of game officials, the NFL announced Friday.

Bart Scott was fined $25,000 for verbally abusing game officials and throwing an official’s flag into the stands during last Monday night’s Baltimore-New England game

Samari Rolle, Chris McAlister, and Derrick Mason were fined $15,000 each for publicly questioning the integrity of the officiating in last Monday night’s game.

“This is about the importance of sportsmanship and respecting the integrity of our game,” said NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Ray Anderson. “We do not tolerate inappropriate conduct between teams and game officials. This includes reminding game officials that they are to conduct themselves at all times as professionals in their dealings with players, coaches, and other club personnel.”

Anderson went to Baltimore this week to speak directly with Scott and Rolle before issuing the fines Friday.

“Last Monday night’s game was well officiated,” Anderson said, “and it is the obligation of both players and coaches to maintain proper respect for game officials at all times.”

In addition to prohibiting physical contact with game officials, league rules also bar team personnel from verbal or other non-physical abuse of officials and from public criticism of their integrity.

Of course the outcome wasn’t “necessary” thanks to the idiot Ravens taking idiot penalties (and deserved too). Had the call been reversed the Pats would have had the ball at the 2 with 44 seconds and a TO, the Ravens weren’t going to stop them.

Face reality, the Ravens screwed the pooch, they couldn’t finish the deal then they had a major meltdown on the Pats final possession and gave the game away. If you insist there’s a conspiracy check out Billick’s account because the problems came from that sideline not the zebras.

A simple first down or two in the 4th quarter on the part of the Ravens denies Brady the ball. If Boller doesn’t chuck the ball downfield on 3rd & long the game is over.

Face reality, the officials betting on the game who said "Tom Terrific the Wonderboy and the Team of Angels" would cover the spread lost their shirts. Some obnoxious bunch of punks largely from the "U" played smashmouth football and showed Wonder Coach that with a bit more talent, they could have had the greatest upset in NFL history when they were double digit underdogs. BTW, that guy with the ulcer in your office, bet he was out Tuesday because the Ravens cost him 2 "large" on the over/under in Vegas. Too bad. As for Stillers, they've got no chance. That was the closest the Pats come to losing all year.

The Swami

PS. The game got the highest cable ratings in cable history. Think all those fans watching were pulling for the Pats? Think again...

The Pittsburgh Steelers may be 9-3 but they've had a very easy schedule and have played mostly awful teams all year. On the road they are 2-3 including losses to the pathetic New York Jets and the mediocre Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals. They just barely beat the winless Miami Dolphins at home and only managed a field goal against them.

On the other hand, the New England Patriots have beaten a lot of solid teams including blowing out the 11-1 Dallas Cowboys and beating the 10-2 Indianapolis Colts.

The Pats should easily handle Pittsburgh on Sunday.

You are upholding the honor of the AFC Central. I find myself in the odd position of pulling for you this weekend. Get it done!

Which is what they said about Baltimore last Monday night. The line was 19 points. Unlike the Ravens, the Steelers have decent receivers and a real quarterback.

Dick LeBeau is my hero this week...

The Steelers will make the game close for a while, but given the Steelers' habit of "tanking" games while on the road this season and the fact the Patriots are playing on the "fast track" home field at Gillette Stadium with its FieldTurf surface, I'm not so sure about the Steelers' chances.

Surprisingly light, I’d say. I figured there would be suspensions. Didn’t one of these clowns make off like he wanted to get physical with one of the officiating crew?

Mandate selling the team to competent ownership.

(Raven’s sure got their butts kicked, as did the Steelers, yesterday.)

Anybody that isn’t named “Brown’ would work for me. I’m so sick of the incompetence disguises as ‘doing it the way its worked before’ crap from this franchise.
