Does “Life” really do that number on your teeth? That’s nasty.
Where do I sign up for this, and I’m not kidding. I don’t think it’s funny, as a self-employed individual, if I could legitimately claim no SSN, I could avoide 15.3% of my overall tax burden! Why can’t something like this happen to me?

You should have a number already right? It should be on the tax returns, pay docs, ect... That info should be in the computer at the SS office. You also have maiden names and other relative's info. They should have had all that in detail, like your gradma's addresses, ect... right in front of them on the screen. Was the doc a birth certificate in Japanese? LOL! Just kidding.
BellStar is a play on Belle Starr the very skilled gun-women of the old west’s name. I am an NRA Life member and strong 2nd Amend. supporter. I saw that “Belle” could be spelled Bell as in Liberty Bell – “Starr “ could be Star as in the Lone Star State and thus my FR name was chosen way back in 1998!

Had an occasion to apply for unemployment a couple of decades ago. CA unemployment office said someone else (with a different name) was using my number. They even knew the illegal. Told me to go to the SS office across the street and let them know. I did. They said the guy using my number was just adding to my SS contributions, if there were any.
It appears SS, like IRS, would like to do everything online now. Go to their homepage here: Social Security Online. Especially, look at "Questions"

I clicked on your profile. Anyway, people born in your situation sometimes have problems proving they are US citizens. The “Birth Certificate” sometimes makes the typical low level bureaucrat scratch their heads.
This will likley require persistence and patience. When my Dad finally went to apply for his social security they decided he didn’t exist either - never mind the years of contributions. To make matters more difficult, the court house in the county where he was born had burned when he was a small child - no original records.
Low level clerk types at SS do not believe in solving problems - if it doesn’t fit in their narrow little categories, you have to move up the chain and you have to be persistent.
Which is part of the reason why so many illegal immigrants get SS cards unquestioned. They have the right documents so the clerks don’t question anything.
