I went to get a new S.S. card and was told I don't exist.

The good news is they can no longer deduct FICA from your paycheck.

On the bright side, you can quit paying income tax!

Look in the yellow pages under attorney for an attorney referral service.

Have you served in the military? Or have any other proof of your SSN? Do your parents have a copy of your first SSN.

Also since you don’t have your card, are you sure that you have the correct number?

Have you ever gotten one of those annual Social Security statements in the mail?

Well, it really is kinda funny. Look on the bright side—no taxes to pay if you don’t exist.

Why would you need an attorney? The SS office wouldn’t take your birth certificate?

This is not funny!

That's a matter of opinion. Since it's not happening to me, it's kinda funny.

Weird. This thread just showed up on it’s own without any posting it. Just a blank where the posters name should be. Odd.

Are you serious? Have you ever filed a tax return? Check there for your SS#.

Really need more information than you've provided, but I doubt very seriously that an attorney is needed. If you know your social security number and have the required proof of your identity, there is not much SSA can do to deny you.

Have you tried telling them that you don't speak any English and you have no proof of citizenship? That ought to get you first-rate service!

You may have been spelling your name differently, or if you are a woman, you may not have changed your name when you got married.

My husband got a similar letter because when he was in grade school and attending private school, his mother changed the spelling of his name to a more affected spelling. When he went in the service, all his papers reverted to the original spelling. Just contact the SS office or go in and don’t leave until they figure it out. I think that my husband was notified by the company that he works for, and then contacted by SS. Sure enough the SS letter was addressed to the odd spelling of his name.

That's okay some Mexican probably exists here quite nicely for you.

Did you have a social security card as a child? What's the story?

In the mean time thank the Lord God and consider yourself lucky! :-)
