On Clemens' stance regarding claims in Mitchell Report that he used and was injected with banned performance-enhancing drugs from 1998-2001: ``Roger Clemens adamantly, vehemently and whatever other adjectives can be used, denies that he has ever used steroids or whatever the word is for improper substances. ``He is really concerned and upset that he has been named in this report based on the allegations of apparently, reading the report, based on a trainer (Brian McNamee) that he has had in the past. ``That's not a standard somebody should be held out in public to have done something as serious as have used steroids in baseball.''
In a release by Hardin's office earlier Thursday, NcNamee is described as a "troubled and unreliable witness" and "a former trainer who worked with Clemenson the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees, (who) has repeatdedly denied these current claims, including in June of this year whe he was first contacted by federal investigators. According to McNamee, after a day of repeated denials to federal investigators, he changed his story under the threat of federal criminal prosecution. He says he was then forced by those federal prosecutorial authorities to tell the same story for inclusion in the Mitchell Report."

I know nothing about baseball and very little about this case..but I don’t like the smell of congree releaseing names on anything telling the world someone is guilty without it being proven..it sounds like mcarthyism...some folks seem to think it’s ok if it rich ball playeres...
Clemens' use of steroids was one of the worst-kept secrets in baseball over the last decade.
Any doubts I had about that were erased as soon as I saw/heard the statement from his smarmy lawyer who looks and acts like a character from a bad "B" movie set in Texas.
This has nothing to do with Congress.IIRC,this investigation was put in motion by Major League Baseball itself.
It’s not even just Major League Baseball, either. These accusations were based on testimony provided in one or more Federal investigations, so they would have been a matter of public record at some point anyway.
I agree. These men are adults and they have the right to put anything in their bodies if they want to.

Joseph McCarthy vigorously resisted releasing ANY names on people in the public hearings, since (in his words) they had not been tried in a court of law and might be ultimately be proven innocent. He referred to them all as “Case #1” and so on.
He was FORCED to reveal names by liberals on the other side of the aisle and the media who had no qualms about ruining the lives of people whose ruin might be a useful instrument in discrediting McCarthy and the anti-communist cause.
This is another liberal slander...most people don’t realize it, and I would guess you probably didn’t either. I knew exactly what you meant, though.

A former U.S. senator issues a damning report, and you want to call Clemens’ lawyer smarmy? Sheeesh!
All Clemens needs to do is sue his personal trainer (who worked for him since ‘87), who stated that he personally injected steroids into Clemens’ ass on multiple occasions. Call a press conference and call his trainer a lie and sue him for slander.
Personally, I'd love to see the lawsuits fly in all directions, what lawyers call the shotgun stategery.

I stand corrected...I will have to read more about those time..(It was little bofore my time) but I guess I learned the liberal interpretation in school and media..
Actually a lot of these guys were named in Jose Canseco’s book a few yrs ago
Note that no one has sued Canseco....and the media who bashed Canseco earlier are now having to agree with him
The one thing that puzzled me yesterday was the Mitchell Commission advising baseball “not to punish the players...except in agregious cases”.....which means Mitchell and Co. may be a little nervous about the accuracy....esp if they had to answer in court.
The best way for all to handle the issue is to stop watching MLB. The only way they will clean it up is for people to stay away from games and not watch on TV

... to head-off, or to shape a subsequent Congressional inquiry -- so the Mitchell Report has EVERYTHING to do with Congress. That's why they picked a former Senator to lead the investigation. Now that the report is over, Mitchell's job will be to get Congress to swallow its conclusions & remedies without going beyond what MLB is prepared to do.
I think its safe to say that Mark McGwire went far beyond Andro with his training program considering his relationship with Canseco & the proximity of BALCO. But your other questions are valid.
