Dear friends,
Dan left us this morning at 6:00am . He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him.
RIP
Hubby and I are listening to Leader of the Band now.
That song always chokes me up :~)
RIP
Oh yes! This is very sad - I had no idea. He was so much on my mind this year with the vigils for Barbaro and how often I posted those lyrics and sang that song to myself.
I’ve heard that Derby people grew to hate the song, but I still love it, because it’s a rarity to hear it played.
Condolences to his family and his many music fans.
Sleep peacefully, gentle balladeer.
Oh how sad. As a hard-core heavy metal highschooler from the 80’s, I very secretly LOVED Dan’s music and listened to him in my room late at night when everyone else was asleep. His music got me through alot of “stuff” that kids that age have to sort through to become productive adults. He’ll be missed.
Having gone to school in Kentucky, this is the one that gets me...
And it’s run for the roses as fast as you can.
Your fate is delivered. Your moment’s at hand.
It’s the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime of
Chance. And it’s high time you joined in the dance.
It’s high time you joined in the dance.
I had several of his albums, and saw him in concert as well. One of the most talented songwriters and musicians of his generation. RIP.
Good one. :~) We’ll have to find that and listen now :~)
I have it...on vinyl...
um...no...
Aw man, I hate that! He’s absolutely one of my favorite singer/songwriters. “Leader of the Band” always brings tears to my eyes because it makes me think of my Daddy. One of my favorites of his albums is “Twin Sons of Different Mothers” which he made with Tim Weisberg.
Doesn’t everybody?
My luck probably no Fogelberg...must check 45s.
You made your home town proud of you.
Rest in Peace, dear friend.
I have a turntable here, which is probably older than me and doesn’t get much use anymore.
Say... now that’s pretty nifty :~)
You can digitize all your old LPs.
I sold all my LPs several garage sales ago :~)
