January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
The lower bumper/grill look similar.
Just to throw this out there....
Christina apparently has a sister and a brother-in-law that live in Jacksonville. That’s the rumor on the comment section of the Daily News. It also says that this sister and BIL are Marines.
The thing is, I don’t think she was in the mood to spit on him, much less talk to him. She’d been through heck, she was dreading seeing him, she’d been punched by a friend of his, her car had been keyed.....There was no love in their relationship.
I don’t doubt that she could very likely have been picked up by him-— but more like coerced verbally or physically forced.

I thought about that too. The neighbors said there were a lot of people there for those fires.

I keep remembering being 8 months pregnant several times.
Looking back at all the support I had in place (and STILL not thinking more would be even better) I just can’t imagine being that alone and out on a limb.

Exceelent pic of the two trucks, IamHD! Okay, the two trucks look slightly different. It looks like the ATM truck has a two tone color possibly, and the front headlight area looks a little off. The grill looks similar. The “hole” on the front bumper looks exactly the same. Some discrepancy or similarity could be the grainy black/white ATM capture and the reflection of light. What say you all? Anybody know much about trucks and typical features?
First of all, I honestly believe that at the most, it was Lauren and his wife involved.
However, they were discussing how ugly it looks to have a murdered marine and her baby underneath the fire where a bunch of Marines are partying. A murdered marine who as ostracized and even attached for reporting rape. It looks like some kind of barbaric ritual.
If that doesn’t slap the who USMC in the face, I don’t know what does. The guy actually asked “Were they all celebrating her death? That’s what it looks like.”

Regardless...we know who is responsible and I am confident that they will be punished either now or later. Can you imagine living with something like this for the rest of your life?
There is more video of the truck at the link posted at #1428. Looking at the reflection of light on the truck makes it more possible.
