January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Unfreakingbelievable.
This is a WTF moment if ever there was one.
I just assumed that LE tore it down to get equipment in....
It is simply UNREAL.
I have seen other blogs where they talk about the missing fence and being used to help cover and burn the body. But the wheelbarrow that Cesear supposedly is buying at Lowe’s was bought on the 16th, a Sunday. Maybe he broke his or borrowed someone else’s then replaced it. Or maybe he dug the pit and buried her after a couple of days. But if he bought the wheelbarrow on a Sunday, when did he use it? Was there a time stamp on the Lowe’s video?
Also, the neighbor indicates bonfires in the back on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years’s (give or take a day or two). Why didn’t he notice the bonfire on the 15/16/or 17th? Something isn’t adding up. It would make more sense if the body was stored for a period of time.
Or maybe he dug the hole, put her in it, covered it up with fence portions then burned her later 23/24. The bodies would have to be pretty bad smelling by then, though. This is really gross.
Hey, just got in from work and dying to catch up here....dang missed something on Nancy Grace about the video and hoping it is on down on the thread.
Yes I did pass this picture with notes and an email to Sutherland along with making the phone call. This thing has ate at me all weekend.
OK off to catch up and look at new releases.
***... he dug the hole, put her in it, covered it up with fence portions then burned her later 23/24...
McGyver!
I believe he had to multi-task - probably had already planned a barbecue(s) over the holiday season and to avoid suspicion he combined cremation with the cook-out. To pull it off - the wife had to know - and perhaps one or two really close buddies.
As far as the smell of a decomposing body - 2-3 feet covered with charcoal and lighter fuel and wind - would camouflage the smell. Also fill the pool up with plenty of chlorine. Those houses are not that close.
here's an idea: Laurean may have pestered Maria on the last day about whether or not she was going to proceed with the rape investigation. Out of exasperation, she may have told him, "i'll tell them it wasn't you - you couldn't even get it up".
She could have said that or something extremely insulting to his manhood and he lost his temper and "showed her who was boss" with a crowbar.
It’s not that outlandish. Many men have been known to *rage* murder their wives/girlfriends beginning with arguments over trivial stuff.
I believe Laurean was obsessed with Maria - as a sexual conquest. Believing she was carrying his child must have fed his narcissism. By denying it was his child - and simultaneously holding a rape accusation against him - may very well have insulted his manhood. She was saying, in effect, that there was another man in her life who had succeeded in impregnating her.

Monday night GRETALIVEWIRE
In Jacksonville, NC?!!!!
Have you guys seen this video? It's a fellow female Marine friend of Maria's:

Apparently, Greta and her news crew found a shoe in CL’s backyard that appeared to have possible dried blood on it. They called LE and it is said that the shoe was being guarded or something to that effect.
Could those be Maria’s shoes? If that is blood the crime scene had to be a bloody mess!
How the hell could investigators miss that?!
Thanks, I thought I’d let someone else have some “fun” posting that last pic. Give us a synopsis after watching Greta if you get a chance as to what’s what. Why would investigators leave a shoe like this lying around? Maybe a dog had it and brought it back home? Very wierd or very sloppy investigating.
Greta says the crime photos show the other shoe in the garage.
what are the fibers near the heel - dog hair?
