Apparently during that offseason Smith’s agent demanded that Bobby Bethard make him the highest paid back in the league. Bethard couldn’t stop laughing.

I checked my math, and my math was correct. However, I “broke the rules”. The first variable in Sims statistic ended up at 2.9 and it cannot exceed 2.375.

Oh well. Therefore Sim’s rating was 150.

GOODELL: Look folks, football has taken a hit in the last few years. The league is mediocre...people find it difficult to really love or really hate a team, there is no emotion in it.

NFL MARKETING PEON 1: Sir, I have an idea. Why don’t we figure out a way to get people involved emotionally....play on their baser emotions?

GOODELL: How do we do that? Weekly stories about the players, their personal lives or such?

NFL MARKETING PEON 1: No, we already do that.

NFL MARKETING PEON 2: How about this? We pump up one team, make them unbeatable, really polarize things. Those who love the winning team will really love them, and the others will really hate them.

GOODELL: We already have that. Is that the best you can do? Christ, they send me these people fresh out of Harvard Business School, and I get tripe like this. I could have thought of that myself.

NFL MARKETING PEON 3: Excuse me...why don’t we make it UNFAIR? Americans LOVE underdogs, especially when they think that those underdogs are being unfairly held down because the playing field is not level.

GOODELL: Hmm...interesting...tell me more.

MARKETING PEON 3: We FIX it. We make it blatant! We put the power of the league squarely behind the winners...pile it on...make it OBVIOUS! We can have the officials make all the calls in favor of the Top Dog! Think of it! I can hear the howls of outrage at the officials! Fans will be on their feet! Everyone will have an opinion...even little old grannies who never watched a football game in their life!

GOODELL: YES! We can make the team appear to people like Darth Vader and the Imperial Storm Troopers! Great idea! What team do we choose?

MARKETING PEON 1: Sir, I suggest the New England Patriots.

GOODALL: Really? Oh, come on. How can we do that? Tom Brady is a nice guy, has a great smile and good skills. How are we going to turn him into Darth Vader for God’s sake?

MARKETING PEON 3: Not Tom Brady. We can just say he is a closet homosexual...not the poster boy they make him out to be. We have to make BELICHICK the bad guy! Think Tom Landry with his hat and his stuffy demeanor, while his teams pounded the competition. Sure, they hated Staubach, but...who did they REALLY hate? Tom Landry! That looks good. A passer rating cant go negative either if I recall correctly. If you want to have fun go pull the stats from Rex Grossman in his last regular season game last year (against the Packers) and calculate his passer ratting in that game.

Check out the list...Doug Williams and Steve Young both had record performances against Denver. Bet Simms big day is too. (At least I’m not a Browns fan...lost to Denver 3 straight years in AFC Championship game just before we got slaughtered and became the reason for these great QB #s.)

I have a bad feeling that Eli Manning is going to join his fellow Giants QB at the bottom of the list.

The Giants have been playing well the last few weeks because Boss has been in for Shockey. The Patriots will try to shut down Boss, and the recently disciplined Manning will be forces to scramble or make errant passes, therefore cutting the vital organs of the Giants offense. If I were the Giants, I would use a lot of double TE formations, receiver overloads.

The thing about the pats is, is that they’re slow on defense. They can’t stop the run and they can’t stop the pass. Until a team gets into the red zone. Offenses are somewhat limited as to what they can call in a short field situation, and Belichick seems to come up looks in the red zone that confuse offenses. Teams get field goals instead of td’s. Well the pats offense is unstoppable. They’ll by up 35 plus against the giants. And by the forth quarter all those field goals to touchdowns will usually add up to a double digit lead.
The advantage the Giants have this time, is that they’re already seen the pats playing at their best defensively. The giants, particularly bradshaw, are healthy on offensive. And I expect them to score td’s instead of fg’s. Their undoing will be a turnover late in the game which will turn a one possession game into a double digit pats lead. My prediction is Pats 38 Giants 28.
