Value-oriented conservatives have been around and influencing Presidential elections since LONG BEFORE 2004. You may have it right that Huckabee is the only candidate for whom many value-oriented people such as myself will vote, but there are lots of other conservatives who will never vote for him. So regardless, I think we need to face the cold, hard reality: since the GOP cannot seem to produce a viable candidate who is acceptable to both social and other conservative factions, the Dems are almost certain to win.

At least he’s not McCAin. Then again he seems to want to be McCain’s veep.
Huckabee has fibbed one too many times to court the honest people vote. I know, he always comes up with some lame excuse after the fact, but he just doesn’t seem to honest to me.

John McCain is certainly out of sync with the Republican base on immigration, and he’s taken his share of heat for it. But it takes an awful lot of chutzpah for Mitt Romney to attack McCain yesterday in New Hampshire as “pro-amnesty,” when Romney is on record just two years ago explicitly describing McCain’s position as not being “amnesty.”
This is an issue that came up in one of the debates, and Romney tried to defend his about face on McCain and immigration reform by launching into purposefully detailed and mind-numbing discussion about the “Z Visa” provision of the bill.
It’s one thing to switch positions on an issue. It’s something else to then turn around and attack people for holding the same position you just held.
Immigration is a potent issue among Republican voters everywhere, so perhaps Romney’s attack will work. On the other hand, the attack is so transparently hypocritical it plays directly into the core vulnerability that is undermining Romney’s entire candidacy: that he’ll say whatever he needs to and change his stance on any position he feels is necessary to win the Republican nomination.
Hey all these guys are not conservative. Huck x’ed himself out with me by his immigration history. A signature on a piece of paper means as much to me as George Bush I’s , “read my lips, no new taxes pledge”.
I am not happy with our choices this time, gut feeling for me is to vote for Paul, he may be a kook, but he is probably more honest.
I am not a wealthy person, I cannot afford to be taxed to pay for all of these illegals in this country. I also value our sovereignty.
I as am disappointed as you are. Truth is, the border is lost, we are going to get a Democrat. None of our candidates can unite this pary. The GOP has botched it.

Idon’t consider myself a “racist” or a “bigot.” But Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee apparently does.
Because I happen to see the merit of a measure, proposed by two Arkansas state lawmakers, that would require anyone registering to vote in the Razorback State to prove citizenship and anyone applying for state services to prove legal residency.
To Huckabee’s mind, anyone who supports such a law has succumbed to “race-baiting and demagoguery.” That would include yours truly. It also would include a majority of my fellow California residents.
Indeed, in 1994, nearly 60 percent of voters in the Golden State approved a ballot measure that denied state benefits to illegal aliens. Proposition 187 even mustered a third of the state’s Latino vote. “

Exactly! The “group think” here at Free Republic is ridiculous. I questioned Fred Thompson’s desire and ability to win for months — said we needed to give time and money to Hunter to hedge our bets and make sure we had a conservative in the race to support — and got flamed for it repeatedly by the group thinkers. Now they seem to have decided that the guy they all knew wasn’t a true conservative two weeks ago suddenly is . . . It’s wierd.
I am against the illegals overrunning this country so I am a racist and bigot according to huckleberry.

Illegal and disproportionate “Immigration without Integration” would “kill” ANY Nation in the World. Nobody wants that (except from a few Lib Dems who abuse it as a way to distance themselves from Middle-class People, condemned to bad Schools, neighborhoods, etc).
