Been busy with “things” but did see MEET THE SPARTANS.. a parody/spoof of 300. Think you would like it. Also a new Gerald Butler flick coming out. Have seen the trailers a few times - Nim;s Island. Did you see PS I love you? .
Hello to all the ATRWers here. Interesting times in politics. I posted my first LIVE political thread.....as many of you know NOT my forte.. give me a movie thread or a pet thread or a nature thread.. but politics? ha!
Stay warm & safe everyone
I've got to rant. T'is short it is, but none the less a rant.
The great Ronaldus Magnus said, "I didn't leave the democRAT party, the party left me." Well, I'm here to tell you the November vote comes down to this: do I vote for a left leaning RINO, or do I allow a Marxist in office? Kinda like do I bleed to death from an artery or a vein?
Sheesh, I feel like a ball game on a rainy day.
On a more positive note, pitchers and catchers report next week. See how I try to alleviate the pain.
5.56mm
I did see P.S. I Love You, and I loved it. I don’t think there are many women who could resist Gerard Butler with the Irish brogue and the light-hearted character he gets to play in this.
Ignore the bad reviews; all my girlfriends of ALL tastes loved it and went to see it more than once. GB was truly wonderful! Most of the reviews trash Hilary Swank for not being “cutesy” enough, and conversely, not being cerebral enough. She has a superb figure which is well-displayed in some of the best costumes I’ve seen in a modern film in a long time. One friend said she was not so pretty that you hate her, LOL! Another said it was just a good story, which is why the critics hated it.
As if it wasn’t enough to have hunky Butler in this, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is also there to drool over!
Go, go, go!
Driving home just now from rehearsal I was listening to Savage...something I rarely do.
Even he says we have to suck it up and vote for McC. And he's firm, clear, and reasoned about it.
Every 4 years - sometimes 2 years - I devote significant time working for the Rs. I was vowing that while McC would get my vote, he wouldn't get those hours of my precious time, but....but....I expect it'll take just a few more speeches/shrieks from Obama/Hillary to push me into the "when do I report for duty" category....sigh...
I will look for that movie. Gerard Butler ...Did you see Dear Frankie? It’s a good one.
Oh I went, went, went!
a few weeks ago & loved it. I dont really put a lot of stock in the reviews. If the artists, writers, directors OR subject matter are of my liking it is fine. Rotten Tomatoes has not reflected me at all lately.
I still haven’t written up the review. I am about 10 behind at this point. sigh.
Those sorts of rehearsals, while demanding can also be quite stimulating. A good conductor can obtain sound that you never thought your group (or you) were capable of. And the soloists always add a new level of interest too.
I may have told you about the one Christmas piece we sang where the full orchestration and solo’s/ensembles weren’t added even at the dress. They each had their own dress and it was put together at the performance (which seemed tricky, but it worked)
The chorale members were as swept away at the full production as the audience was. It was stunning.
When is the perfomance (s)?
Saw it and loved it too.
The whole movie as a class act. The critics had nothing nice to say about it, but I thought it was delightful - a tear jerker in part, but delightful.
I agree, the costumes were wonderful, especially the 27 dresses!
If the critics pan a movie, I know I’ll love it!
Discovered this after paying good money to go to a couple of movies that the critics thought were A+. They were so awful you couldn’t even find, or understand, the story line. - if there was one.
Lately, if there is a movie I think I want to see and the critics say it is good I just wait for it on TV where I don’t have to pay to have my intelligence insulted.
You are not alone at that ball game. It is raining and pouring all over with no end in sight. I wish Romney had stayed in the game. The pubbies just seem to have no staying power at all. Sheesh!
The high schoolers are back from their annual two weeks in the interior. A good time was had by almost all.
At least they didn’t fall off the mountain.
Good morning, dahlink.
>>I expect it’ll take just a few more speeches/shrieks from Obama/Hillary to push me into the “when do I report for duty” category....sigh...
We shouldn’t have to go through this.
Nobody talks about health care or immigration like Steyn. Nobody articulates the threat we face from radical Islam quite like Steyn. Nobody makes the case for freedom like Steyn. And absolutely nobody makes you think as much and laugh as much as Mark Steyn.
“Dear Frankie” is one of my all-time, all-time FAVORITE movies! Everything about it was beautiful, from the muted Scottish landscapes to the sweet pacing to the extraordinary talent of every single actor and actress on the screen. The director, Shona Auerbach, should be rightly proud of this gem.
I’ve learned that if it is a decent story about NICE people who don’t kill someone or harbor perverted motives, or use profanity every third word, the critics hate it. They also don’t seem to have much good to say about GB, who is (IMO) one of the finest, finest actors of our time.
jtill, I loved the costumes because it was so refreshing to see beautiful dresses again! I’m a “dress girl” myself, and so I was immediately drawn to seeing dresses, and of course, heels!
Dolly, I’m sending you a FReepmail in a couple of minutes.
Steyn’s book, AMERICA ALONE, is a MUST read!
It’s not political.....It’s a scary reality of which we must all be aware.
Yep...I used to think our strength was that we didn’t have to force ourselves on the world-— now it may be a weakness.
“....Europe, laments Steyn, is almost certainly a goner. The future, if the West has one, belongs to America alonewith maybe its cousins in brave Australia. But America can survive, prosper, and defend its freedom only if it continues to believe in itself, in the sturdier virtues of self-reliance (not government), in the centrality of family, and in the conviction that our country really is the worlds last best hope.”
He was pretty angry...& fearful.... yesterday on Ingraham's show. For a few minutes, his sense of humor faded so much that the other emotions took front and center as he talked about our country...and the world...under an Obama or Hillary presidency.
prairie, that production sounds wonderful for all involved.
This guest conductor we have is very much in the collaborative frame of mind. He's very respectful toward the musicians and choristers, and our own choral director. Sometimes these guest conductors arrive with either big egos, or something...but they don't make much of an effort to connect.
We perform here on Sat night, then go up to Cleveland to perform Sun afternoon.
always, I should watch that movie again. I just loved watching Butler's character with the boy..
Good morning everyone!
