I thought it would be interesting to start a discussion on who McCain (if he is the nominee of the Republican Party) will ask to be his running mate in the upcoming elections. My list of possibilities is:
Haley Barbour (my favorite)
John Kasich (my second favorite)
Bill Owens (good outside possibility)
Fred Thompson (probably a cabinet officer or ambassador)
Tommy Thompson (probably not under consideration)
Connie Mack (doubtful because of his age, 68)
Mark Sanford (doubtful, stated he's run his last election and did not endorse anyone in the South Carolina primary)

He doesn’t need one, he thinks he is king - so why appoint one.
Its not like you need a king in waiting.

Lieberman would be making a mistake if he agreed, and McCain would be making a terrible mistake if he asked him. Lieberman could become the most powerful member of the Senate if McCain is elected president because of their longstanding friendship and Lieberman’s certain “open door” access to the Oval Office.

Huckabee will probably end up running the Voice of America or something similar, but I doubt he will be the VP.

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has been part of the McCain campaign for quite a while now. I think he has a shot.

Knowing how much John likes to ‘reach across the aisle’... he’ll probably pick Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi.... folks who see eye to eye with him...

Not another Bush for a while please, even though Jeb is probably very qualified for the job.

I’m thinking Hucklbee or Thompson.
