I agree. That's one reason it's so hard to win even if you have the best horse. All that squeezing and bumping out of the gate and running up the middle of the track on the first turn making some cover a bunch more ground, is what makes it so difficult to win. Not only do you need THE BEST horse on Derby day, but you need BIG LUCK too.

Speaking of luck...I don't like that Bob Black Jack drew # 13. I consider that BAD MOJO, no matter what PP he eventually gets, not that I thought he was likely to win it all, but I thought he had a good chance of hitting the board at big odds.

All the speed starting from the outside PP's tells me to go with one of the closers who can save ground. Colonel John? Pyro? Visionaire?

Sometimes the best horse doesn’t get it done. See Point Given, Afleet Alex, Easy Goer etc.

Don’t give up on Bob yet. He’s fast enough to get position, tough enough to hang on. Trainer is VERY pleased with the way he is training with blinks. :-)
