Ian McKellen will again take up the robes of Gandalf the Wizard in the cinematic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy classic "The Hobbit" a British film magazine reported Wednesday.
But McKellen's publicist warned that final arrangements were yet to be made.
"Of course he wants to do it, but nothing's been agreed or signed," Clair Dobbs said.

Any rumors yet as to who will be Bilbo?
Good to hear. Will be very interesting to see who gets the other roles. I’m sure if we are hearing about this, they are heavily involved in the casting right now.
I heard that Guillermo del Toro has agreed to move to New Zeland for 4 years to film the two movies.
Can’t wait to see them.
Well... there y’go, then.

Yep; a little over the top, but yes, I think he caught Gollum. Peter Woodthorpe, who also did Gollum for the Bakshi version.
He’s as queer as a $3 bill, but he does a great Gandalf.
I dunno. The Harry Potter movies had to switch Dumbledores because Richard Harris died.
I think James McAvoy (Atonement) would be perfect, but he may not want to do it, after doing Mr. Tumnus in Narnia.
When I first saw "The Fellowship of the Ring," I couldn't believe it. "How the heck did they get Gandalf the Gray to play himself?!?!" I'm being series here... While other actors might be able to play the role, NOBODY else IS Gandalf.

You will like it if you are into foreign, artsy films. Actually I thought because of the trailer and commercials, that it was a fantasy movie for children, but upon seeing it this was far from the truth. It is an excellent movie but violent, do see it. Other good choices: Lives Of Others and Lumumba./Just Asking - seoul62.......
Richard Harris WAS Dumbledore, while the new one (I can't remember his name off-hand) just doesn't do it for me. It seemed like Harris "got it" far better.

No, it wouldn’t, and I hope they get the same actors for Elrond and Gollum as well. It would also be nice to see cameos for whoever played Legolas and Arwen (the kind of cameos where they’re just there, not doing anything special) because it’s entirely plausible for them to have been around.
Orson Bean.
Hobbit is going to be two movies.
Sorry to hear he is gay though. Ouch..
Better than doing The Hobbit they should film some of the great stuff they missed in the trilogy. For instance:
1. Tom Bombadil
2. Saramon’s speech after the Destuction of Orthanc.
3. The “Voice of Sauron” at the gates of Mordor.
4. The Scourging of the Shire
They could release it as: “A Hobbit’s Recollection”. Each scene could be introduced by Sam, Merry or Pippin as they sat discussed their adventures over a mug of beer. Then they could edit it for re-release on DVD as a more complete and seamless Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Don’t get me wrong; I love The Hobbit but there was just too much great stuff left out of the trilogy films.
Naah - he’s even older than Sir Ian!
Thanks, Proud. It wasn’t clear to me what was going on from the article.
Awesome! I don’t care if he is a great poof, no one else can play Gandalf but McKellan.
