It is pretty easy to put "made in USA" on something? Did you look at the box they came in? Was the master shipping carton nearby? Ask the retailer if you can buy a case, see if he has a case in the back and get a look at the shipping carton.

Usually it's molded into the item. But you are correct that import boxes are intentionally mislabeled to thwart regulations. A relative tipped me to this. She worked for a China candle importer that routinely did this. IIRC they did this in Mexico to streamline NAFTA regs.
