Participating drivers include #88-Dale Earnhardt, Jr., #24-Jeff Gordon, #48-Jimmie Johnson, #07-Clint Bowyer, #8-Mark Martin, #21-Jon Wood, Brad Keselowski, Cale Gale and NHRA's Tony Schumacher. Several of those drivers, including Mark Martin, Jon Wood and Brad Keselowski were at Lowe's Motor Speedway today for the unveiling of the special cars.
Distinguished members of the military kicked off the Salute the Troops tribute in grand style with a military color guard presentation and the presentation of the cars that will run in the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300, Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day and the O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals the previous weekend to show their support for America's armed forces.
The USO Salute the Troops program hopes to raise funds for American military families in need through the effort. The NASCAR and NHRA team owners, sponsors, drivers and employees donated the space on their cars to collectively thank the armed forces at the CARQUEST Auto Parts 300, Coca-Cola 600 and O'Reilly NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. Diecast models and officially licensed merchandise of the participating drivers will be available for sale through Motorsports Authentics.
"It is an honor for Motorsports Authentics to be a part of this program with Speedway Motorsports, General Sadler, Victory Management and the teams," said Mark Dyer, president of Motorsports Authentics. "All of the men and women serving selflessly in the military are heroes and we recognize their immense sacrifice. This is a great opportunity to recognize, celebrate and support them in a meaningful way. Our sincere hope is that people will come out in force to show their support of this program and to help the heroes among us."
Lowe's Motor Speedway, Motorsports Authentics, Victory Management Group and the NASCAR and NHRA teams and their respective sponsors developed the program. JHE Productions and Lowe's Motor Speedway will collaborate to create a fantastic pre-race tribute presentation. Two major organizations will work together to promote the Salute the Troops Memorial Day Tribute and support the event's fundraising efforts: The USO and Speedway Children's Charities.(PR)

Dude! You must like okra!
OTOH, its Castroville Artichoke Festival season, and Pete’s fetching me a case today... so, you choose.... Okra or artichokes?
Send a jar of artichokes! YUM!
Thanks for hosting, thread looks great!
Hopefully I can keep the Dillo wreckers off the walls this week!

If you'd like ON or Off the Nascar at FR racing threads&stuff Ping List, let me know via Private Reply. Thanks!
This is not a High Volume Ping List and is intended primarily to alert folks of the posting of the weekly Nascar qualifying and race threads.
Occasional sports or military or prayers Pings using the list may also be sent as situation or subject dictates.
Profanities, flame wars and belligerence in observing common sense rules and family decency standards on the thread may result in serious sanctions so be nice. :-)

I’ve used up all the fast drivers, so I’m preparing to take advantage of the potential energy curve. It was fun while it lasted.
I’ll wave on my way down :o)
HUA
Pretty thread. God save our Republic!
Who has the USMC car?
Those babies have just doubled in price. What is going on?
The heck with the gas prices, my artichokes are getting out of sight.

Yes they have. Pete's driving this way anyhow. I lucked out. They're more than twice the price locally.
Is he getting you the ones with the extra protean?
It’s a conspiracy AGP...thanks to the envioroweenies the corn farmers are gonna get rich and now every farm is grow’n corn...Thanks Algore!
That be PROTEIN Tork
I certainly hope not.
though I have no idea what you're talking about.
Soak them in a sulfuric acid bath when you get them and if
earwigs float to the surface dump them in your neighbors yard and go to Whole Foods and buy the most expensive ones you can find.
However if no Earwigs are found the ‘chokes are perfectly safe to eat...
How much are earwigs at Whole Foods these days?
Very expensive but the acid bath doesn’t faze em...
Hey there Vox.
I and getting lulled to complacency with this evening race thing... but the BBQ gets all day to perfect itself. I think I’m going full turkey this weekend with the smoker. I am going to split it up to make sure it’s all cooked safely, but hey, any leftovers will be frozen, and sandwiches of smoked turkey are yummy.
Now the big decision... fruitwood, hickory, or mesquite.
I don't know. Anyone?
I don't know. Anyone?
As a "personal preference," I like sugar maple-wood smoke with turkey but have used fruitwood, mesquite in the past. Last week I made some saliva inducing pulled pork (shoulder)-- ten+ hours of slow cooking/smoking with a good rub. Used pear wood chips with that for the first time. mmmmmmmmmmmm.
Unnngh... double tap! Slam fire?
What... a little M-Pro 7 on the mouse? Militec-1?
Anyone?
Wow, never thought of smoking with sugar maple. I happen to have one that needs to be cut down... I’ll be saving the cuttings!
Last time I checked they were $8.99 a lb. Almost the price of Dungeness crab! Like everything the prices have gone up, and up -- all because of oil prices. ;-)

I'm trying to imagine the second coming of Jimmuh (o. hussein) sitting in front of a fireplace in a cardigan. I watched Di-Fi grilling! the oilers today. We need a vehicle that burns stupid. Between the socialists and ecos, there's an unbounded supply.
Great thread!
Roundball on TNT for those interested.
Got work to do.
THX for the ping. Missed the allstar race due to a work emergency. Sure hope to catch this race. Sure hope to get a whole 3 day weekend.
Jr started 4th and finished 8th last year at the 600... and that was in the DEI ride. He’s got a great shot this year! It sure makes picking a Fantasy Racing team difficult...
I've seen that movie. My work's more of a slow train wreck that usually splodes on Friday. Look for ya at the race.
They ship. I’ve been to their farm last spring. Paid about $30/case of 24s. Online they’re $18/case + shipping.
>Who has the USMC car?<
Hamlin was the driver in 07. I think Rick Rathburn was the sponsor but I am not sure.
Ya know, since the Marines are part of the Navy, you’re asking the wrong question.
Yike. It’s $18 for the case, but $28.50 for shipping, and I’m only two states over.
I can buy Pete a 12 pack of his favorite green beer and feed him pig ribs for less... on the upside, he hates artichokes, so I know I’ll get the full order :o)
on the downside, I cooked some artichokes for his wife, and she loves em. Okay... lessee heah... $20 for half a case plus beer and ribs. Prolly bout the same cost overall. Hmmmm.
I’d best think this over a bit.
USMC Rules For Gun Fighting
Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns.
Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
Only hits count. A close miss is still a miss.
If your shooting stance is good, you’re probably not moving fast enough nor using cover correctly.
Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral and diagonal movements are preferred.)
If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun and a friend with a long gun.
In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics.
They will only remember who lived.
If you are not shooting, you should be communic- ating, reloading, and running.
Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on “pucker factor” than the inherent accuracy of the gun.
Use a gun that works EVERY TIME.
Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
Always cheat = always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.
Have a plan.
Have a back-up plan, because the first one won’t work.
Use cover and concealment as much as possible.
Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.
Don’t drop your guard.
Always tactically reload and threat scan 360 degrees.
Watch their hands. Hands kill. (In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them).
Decide to be AGGRESSIVE enough, QUICKLY enough.
The faster you finish the fight, the less shot up you will get.
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.
Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with a “4”.

Ben sees the Master Gunnery Sgt tomorrow. I’ll see if he will ask him about that and report back.
Before I get fragged, I should probably mention that my daddy was a Navy aviator in ww2, and my bro served on the Kitty Hawk in Tonkin during wwNam.
Octane 87 hit $4.29.9 here today up from $4.09.9 Monday and both our vehicles are near empty.
I filled the TRD at 3.69
Don’t drill the Florida coast or the Alaska tundra, nor mine the Utah Kaipirowitz. Nope. Just keep funding our enemies. Don’t build any refineries or nuclear plants, either. We might attain energy independence and secure our republic. Nope. The enemy is at the doorstep. The enemy is within. Sad days. I fear for my kids’ future.
