LOL.
Is it wrong of me to confess to listening to these guys and owning 3 of their cds?
They’re a band, quirky as all get out, largely acoustic, with a theatrical edge to them. And the occasional anti-war reference comes out. As with many, some songs are better than others.
Just thought a dissenting voice needed to be heard before the band is thrown under the bus for their (supposed) crimes.
John Fogerty? Willie Nelson? Donald Fagen? The same applies. Just shut up and sing and we'll enjoy the music.
Not wrong of you at all to have their albums.
I love them as well. Definitely one of the more lyrically creative bands of recent history and they put on one hell of a show.
Besides any band that mentions Fairport Convention as a touchstone for part of their sound is all right by me.
There *are* a lot of good artists with lefty points of view - I’m guilty as well. For example I’m a longtime Emmylou Harris fan, and she’s been involved with any number of wingnut causes (although now she seems to be focusing on local animal shelters in Nashville so that’s OK).
You’re among friends here, DMZ, you can confess ALL of your sins LOL.
“Barack Obama. Alas, Barack Obama. His prophetic luminescence, it will shatter the putrescence and complacency of the bourgeoisie. ”
You know - I KNEW a Freeper was actually the one who wrote these lyrics! (What do mean its not satire?)
They’re my girlfriend’s favorite band, so I hear them a lot. Mostly ballads and sea-chanties(16 Military Wives gets on my nerves though). Even saw them live at the Hollywood Bowl, where they did NOT begin with the Soviet anthem. Not my cup of tea generally, but they’re not Rage Against The Machine either.
