Yes, it is. Folding@home is considered such a worthwhile project that Sony makes the program available on its PS3 installation disk. You can run it as a standalone program or you can join a team. FreeRepublic has its own folding team called A Tribute To Ronald Reagan, I'm on that team and I just made it into the top 200 (the team has 500+ members).
