First time poster and proud to join the community of Free Republic.
I've been lurking for about a year now and know that a lot of you's are fans of Stargate SG1.
Don Davis who played General George Hammond died on June 29th of a massive heart attack.
He played a better General in fiction that those in the real world such Ret General Weasley Clark.
RIP Hammond of Texas. You can post tributes to General Hammond on Gateworld.

R.I.P., General. One thing of note: Don Davis really
was a U.S. Army captain, and served in Korea in the '70's, which probably lent him so much credibility as an officer onscreen. The man actually walked the walk.

We met him at a DragonCon a few years back. He was a very kind and sincere fellow and as a rule on of my favorites on SG.

Welcome to FR.
Oh, no! I just looked him up on imdb.com and I have enjoyed his work for years without knowing his name. I remember he was Scully's dad in a few episodes of The X-Files. Great character actor.

Glad you mentioned Davis’ military service. If I recall correctly, he served about 10 years in the Army and at a Galaxycon convention in Arlington, Va. a few years ago, he told us how proud he was of that service.
He was a great signer and a really nice person to talk to.
Also starred on the “X-Files” as Scully’s father.
A good American patriot - he will be missed.

I'll be damned - curiousity got the better of me, so I looked it up, and he actually left the army as a light colonel....

Yes, I loved Davis as General Hammond.
I miss that show. We watched every episode. It started going downhill when Richard decided to retire and they made him general.
I can’t blame him for wanting out of the grind... he’d put in so many years as MacGyver and then ... what ... 7 more on SG1.
RIP Don DAvis

I seem to remember him being on some really weird TV show that involved owls, David Duchovny in drag, and a lady who talked to this log she carried around all the time... I’m guessing it was set in the late 80’s from the hairstyles and clothes.
