The Fer de Lance is one of those creatures that cause most people nightmares. Another is the funnelweb spider.

Upon hearing something like this, we of the colored persuasion often respond, 'white people,' cause it usually takes a white person to do something so stupid.

& nastiness comes in all colors...

“Upon hearing something like this, we of the colored persuasion often respond, ‘white people,’ cause it usually takes a white person to do something so stupid. “

Whereas those of the colored persuasion are usually involved in more intellectual pursuits, such as screwing everything with a hole, creating bastard children left and right, (c)rap music, drugs, violence, laziness, and getting their asses killed or thrown in prison.

Hey, you started the idiotic racial stereotype.

I don’t know. Somewhere there is probably some barefooted medical guinea pigs willing to test that for a small payment and or the promise of possible hallucenogenic effects.

Caterpillar envenomation occurs after contact with the bristles of spiny caterpillars, which induces symptoms ranging from mild cutaneous reactions to severe systemic reactions. Twelve families of caterpillars worldwide have been identified as potentially hazardous to humans. However, caterpillar-induced bleeding syndrome is a unique reaction specific to caterpillars of the Lonomia genus (the photo is of a Lonomia obliqua), a type of moth native to South America. In a 5-year period, there were 688 cases of caterpillar envenomation reported in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

Confirming your thoughts, the gal who got bitten by a Fer De Lance in Costa Rica was white, too.

We sure do. YOU started the racial stereotype. But of course, you’re just a helpless victim.

Good luck with that.

I never go barefoot except in my house or down the sidewalk to the mailbox.

Over the past few weeks , on my trip to retrieve the morning paper, I've encountered a turtle, (almost stepped on him) and a nutria.

No kidding! Stupid White liberal kids...often trust fund babies. "Oh, nature won't hurt me."

That being said, you'll no don't get some hyper-sensitive talk-back in this thread.

But really...what Black lady is going to go barefoot through a Peruvian jungle?!

Shoes...they aren't just for looks.

Those suckers are nasty.

Lonomia

One would be bad enough. Five? You're screwed.

{snip}To date, no one has calculated the LD50 values of Lonomia venom; the rate of human fatality has been documented as 1.7%, compared to a rate for rattlesnakes at about 1.8%, despite the fact that the amount of venom is only a minute fraction (less than 0.001) of the amount in a snake bite.

A typical envenomation incident involves a person unknowingly leaning against, placing their hand on, or rubbing their arm against a group of these caterpillars that are gathered on the trunk of a tree. The effects of a dose from multiple caterpillars can be dramatic and severe, including massive internal hemorrhaging, kidney failure, and actual destruction of the blood itself (hemolysis). The resulting medical syndrome is sometimes called Lonomiasis.
