Thanks so much for your kind thoughts regarding my latest unpleasantness. As often happens, reports of my imminent demise are greatly exaggerated.

Dang it, it was more imminent than he let on...I wonder if even he didn't quite realize it.

That just gave me the shivers, and it’s 80 degrees outside.

Attitude is half the battle, unfortunately it was not enough.

As often happens, reports of my imminent demise are greatly exaggerated. I’ve been fighting a bowel obstruction for the last month, and won’t travel until we get it fixed. Hence, the speech cancellations. We’ve embarked on a pretty aggressive course of treatment, and I’m on the mend. As for cancer, all the signs are good: Treatments are working, and genetic tests indicate that a new course of treatment has a good chance of real success.

My friend Gary died of bone cancer 2 years ago. He was in my bible study, and I loved him. He had a beard, he kept in very good shape by running, and his wife is beautiful.

As Gary knew he was getting closer to death, he began to encourage others more than he allowed others to encourage him.

I knew Tony loved Christ, as every Christmas he posted about how he "taking time" to worship the Lord.

Gary gave me this book before he died.

He started talking about Heaven like it was something around the block to drive to. He was always a kind man, but in his last days he was almost angelic. He very briefly resisted something his wife wanted him to do while he was at the end of his days, and later he told a friend he was so upset he was like that with her. His language was kind and calm when he resisted what his wife wanted, and no one thought anything of it. It was basic conversation. But, it bothered him to no end, and he gave his wife a big apology that shocked even her.

I think, at that point, so close to death, he was already crossing over.

He began to talk to me about Heaven in tangible terms, such as trees, rivers, colors, trips (trips?! - yes), animals, friends, food, mountains, mansions, and the Glory of being the presence of God.

I recommend it the book.
