It is entirely consistent with Christian and Jewish tradition, and the Bible text, that God has done and might be doing things in response to peoples’ lack of faith and obedience.
The Hagee comments are not a big deal.
A bigger deal is mainline denominations who leave out the parts about a wrathful God.
Many orthodox Rabbis share this theological view, and came to Hagee's defense. This should explain enough.
