The best way to pick your gun is to find a range that will rent various ones. Go there even if you have to ravel a bit and try out all of the ones you think will work for you. Some may or may not feel good in your hand etc. It is best to have one that fits your hand and style very well. A 1911 Colt fits my hand perfectly and I have very little problem with brass ejection and cycling problems. I am however a very big man that is active and does a lot of physical things. A Beretta P92 is for example fatter in the grip than a 1911 Colt but is easily controlled with two hands. If you want 45 just because of the size of the round - it will do you no good if you cannot hit anything with it.
