The World's Youngest Women Billionaires
Forbes.com ^ | Saturday, July 26, 2008 | Laurie Burkitt

One of the most exclusive groups of billionaires more than tripled its ranks this year.

The number of young billionaire women under the age of 40 jumped to seven from just two a year earlier, bringing the number of women under 50 with 10-figure fortunes to 20, up from 17. The average age of female billionaires has dropped from to 61.5 from 62.5 in just the past year.

The group's youngest: 24-year-old Hind Hariri, the world's second-youngest billionaire after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The daughter of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Al-Hariri and recent graduate of the Lebanese American University in Beirut, she is considered one of the world's most eligible bachelorettes. Alas, Hariri may be off the market; rumor has it--though it has not been confirmed--she's engaged.

Next up is Yang Huiyan, 26, a Chinese native whose father gave her a 58% stake in his real estate development company Country Garden. Yang graduated from Qinghua University in Beijing and went on to study marketing at Ohio State. Her wedding video is posted on YouTube.

There are five 30-something female billionaires, four of whom hail from Turkey.

Three of those four are the glamorous, successful daughters of media baron Aydin Dogan and his wife Sema Isil Dogan, also billionaires. The youngest of the Dogan daughters is 31-year-old Begumhan Dogan Faralyali. A graduate of Stanford University, Begumhan worked as a consultant at Arthur Anderson and is now president of the family's Dogan Holding.

Interesting that none of those ladies mentioned in the excerpt blurb would be billionaires without men giving them the money.

That's usually the way it is. Look up former maid Barbara Piasecka Johnson sometime.

Former maid Barbara Johnson of Princeton really made out very well. Either Vanity Fair or Esquire had a great article about her. She came over here from Poland as a maid and became a nursemaid to one of the Johnsons. (Think Johnson & Johnson.)

His kids had no idea what they were in for. She got him to change his will a few times and ended up with most of his estate. Actually, a couple of NYC law firms ended up with a big part of it.

The magazne article is really worth looking up. It’s a great read. At one point the elderly Mr. Johnson returned from a Boston hospital with a couple of young private duty nurses. They didn’t last ten minutes when Barbara found out! LOL

“world’s second-youngest billionaire after Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg”

Facebook made him a billionaire? What a weird world we live in.

Read the whole article. It doesn’t get to the self-made billionairesses until the end. The author should have lead the story with them.

I live but two miles from Jasna Polana, the old Johnson estate that is now a rather exclusive country club, courtesy of Barbara Piasecka Johnson.

I don’t think so. If he lead the story with 3 or 4 ‘self made billionaires’ that would be hugely misleading. The vast majority are not self-made. They wrote the story right, in inverted-pyramid style.

Well, they can’t have me.

I don’t care how much they plead.

I’m taken.

And to take your logic even further, none of these women would ever have become pregnant if some man somewhere didn’t plant the seed...

Interesting, I’d never heard of her before.....

As the song says, “a man needs a maid”....

In this case the maid made good!!

Your point is not germaine to the article. None of the women would be alive to receive that money from men if a woman didn’t give birth to them either.

Your reaction is like it’s a personal slam against you, which it isn’t.

They are trying to make a big deal showcasing billionaire women, and the vast majority of billionaire women are billionaires not because they made that money themselves. It isn’t a slam or sexist to say that. It is the truth. The article itself confirms it when you read it.

And ironically, Facebook has yet to turn a profit.
