NIAGARA, Wis. - Marinette County's sheriff says the shooting that left three young people dead and another wounded was apparently a random act.
Sheriff Jim Kanikula (kan-ih-KOO'-lah) says a man dressed in camouflage and armed with an assault rifle came out of the woods and started shooting. The sheriff says there was no communication from the gunman with the group of 9 young people that had gathered at a Menominee River bridge to swim.
Its like something out of a horror flick. Yikes!
Creepy! I hope they catch this scumbag as soon as possible.
Open carry is illegal, but defacto illegal because you'll be arrested for "disturbing the peace" if you firearm upsets someone. And the LEO who arrests you will be upset, so you will be "disturbing the peace" in many places and circumstances.
Would an armed citizen have saved all four lives, probably not, maybe none. But with 9 individuals on the scene, some might have been saved, and there's a good chance the gunman would be searching for a hospital for treatment rather than more victims.

CNN just broke the news that they caught a suspect.
Why?
Didn’t take long (sorry over-time seekers) ;^=)
Could they give a better description of the killer? No description here, and on another report “middle-aged”? That’s it? Yeah, we’ll run right out and catch him. They just released the name of the guy that stabbed and decapitated one a canadian greyhound- Vince Weiguang Li. Wanna bet they’re trying hard not to offend some group by identifying this killer? And they’re are going to have the guy that ran over 31 people in SanFran declared “crazy” and put in a hospital, but how many know he was from afghanistan??? Move along, nothing to see here, we wouldn’t want the public to put two and two together.

Many of the news stories are 8 or 9 hours old, this appears to have happened Thursday evening. Still quick if he's been caught, but probably a harrowing night on the scene.
It happened at 5:30 yesterday, the gunman appears to have been caught. The last three updates.

Woman says man held in Wis. shootings raped her
By JAMES A. CARLSON, Associated Press WriterSat Aug 2, 1:38 PM ET
A woman said a man suspected of opening fire on a group of young adults, killing three, had raped her the night before in the same northern Wisconsin woods where the victims were slain.
The woman said she told her parents about the assault, and they reported it to authorities. She said officers came to her home late Thursday, mentioned the shootings that occurred earlier that day along a riverbank in the town of Niagara near the same spot where she claimed to have been sexually assaulted and asked her to describe her attacker.
The suspect, whom the woman described as a casual friend, was arrested Friday after he emerged from the woods following an all-night manhunt.
Scott J. Johnson, 38, is expected to appear in court Monday or Tuesday, Marinette County Chief deputy Jerry Sauve said Saturday. He said it wasnt yet clear if charges would be filed before that court appearance.
